Club to Meet at Luncheon The Olalla Busy Steppers Club will meet Thursday at a potluck luncheon at the home of Mrs. Can-field. Leaves For Eugene Miss Jeanne Dillard of Roseburg left yesterday for Eugene to visit at the Delta Zeta sorority house on the University of Oregon campus until Friday. ' My Dry Luncheon The Gar den Valley Women's Club invites all newcomers in the valley and former club members to attend the annual May-day potluck lunch eon at the clubhouse Thursday. . Cleaning Day to Be Held The ladies of the Mid-Week Bible Class will sponsor an all-day spring housecleaning day of the church Thursday. Members and friends assisting with the work are asked to bring a paper bag luncheon. Coffee will be furnished. Box Social Planned The Oak land Parent-Teachers Association has invited the public to attend a box social Friday night, May 3, at the schoolhouse. A program will be presented. Ladies attending are asked to bring box-lunches. Coffee will be furnished toy the committee. Enjoy Few Days at Coast Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Pearson and daughter, Mary Lynn, enjoyed thr weekend at Coquille visiting Mis. Pearson's brother-in-law and sis ter, Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Clarke, and on Sunday participated in the Roseburg-Coquille golf tournament. Visiting At Finlay Homo Mrs. Gilbert Finla" and baby daughter. Joanne, of West Palm Beach. Florida, have arrived in Roseburg to enjoy a visit with the latter's paternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. G. C. Finlay, and with the baby's great-grandfather, B. F. Skinner. Dr. and Mrs. Fin lay went to Portland to meet their daughter-in-law and Joanne last Saturday. Gilbert Finlay is still serving with the U. S. Army in Japan. Stop Over Here Mr. and Mrs. Sam Eickner stopped over in Roseburg this week for a short visit with friends en route to their home in Raymond, Wash., following a trip to Mexico and through the southern states. While in New Orleans, they at tended the Mardi Gras festival. Both Mr. and Mrs. Eickner were in miiltary service during the war. Mrs. Eickner will be remembered here as Miss Betty Fee, daughter of Harold Fee. Go to Portland Captain and Mrs. Charles Hary left this morn ing for Portland to enjoy a few days. Captain Hary, who just re centy received the 10,000th letter of appointment to the Officers Re serve Corps at Fort Lewis, Wash., upon his honorable discharge from Army service, is now on terminal leave. He served in the European Theater of Operations. Mrs. Hary was formerly Carolyn Allen and during the war re mained in Roseburg with her par ents. Dr. and Mrs. Clair K. Swenson has returned to her home in Roseburg, following a month in Los Angeles on business and visiting. Kelley, Veterans of Foreign Wars will meet at a social Thursday night at 8 o'clock at the Eagles Hall. Ladies are asked to bring sandwiches. Prices Boosted on GMC-Made Autos WASHINGTON, May 1. (MP)) OPA yesterday raised retail nrice ceilings for General'Motors automobiles by $16 to S60 to compensate for wage increases in the industry. The price hikes, effective im mediately, ranpe from S16 to $30 on Pontiac and okismobile models; from $18 to $38 on Buicks; and from $24 to $60 on Cadillacs. The increase is $18 for the only Chevrolet model which has been priced earlier on the basis of manufacturing cost prior to the wage increase of 181 cents hourly recentlv granted by GM. The one model given a ceiling previously was the Chevrolet stvlemaster four-door sedan. On other Chevrolet models be ing priced for the first time, re tail ceilings range from $51 to $68 above 1942 prices. The agency added that the new General Motors price schedule provides for absorption by dealers 'of much of the factor-- -rice in crease" being granted to manu facturers. As in the case of other car dealers, GM dealers' prewar discount margins are being trim med an additional two percentage points. . Infant's Funeral Held Funeral services for James Dare Cowan, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. James Cowan, were held in the Yoncalla cemetery, Monday afternoon. He was born in Eu gene March 15, 1946, and died there April 28. He is survived by his parents and by a sister, Susan Cowan, and a brother, John Cowan. Arrangements were in charge of Stearns Mortuary, Oak land, and the Rev. Mr. Bartlum of the Episcopal Church officiated. Address Sought The Douglas County Selective Service Board Is endeavoring to obtain the present address of Robert George Hutton, originally registered from Gresham, Ore., Percy .Croft,. chairman, reported today. Any persons having knowl edge of Hutton's whereabouts are requested to contact the Selective Service Board at the courthouse in Roseburg. Indignant Cow STEVENSVILLE, Mont., May 1. (JP) Ray Allen's automobile struck a cow. The cow was thrown on top of the car hood. Fifty yards later Allen managed to stop the vehicle. The cow fell to th? highway, mooed loudly and indig nantly, gained its feet and left the scene briskly. The car fender, headlight and hood were damaged. House of Magic, will be presented in Roseburg next Tuesday and Wednesday, May 7 and 8, under sponsorship of the Dmpqua Tost, No. 1U, American Legion. A matinee will be presented Tues day afternoon at 4 o'clock, and evening performances at 8 o'clock in Roseburg Senior High School auditorium. The show will be a full stage production of magic, featuring not only Gram, but his wife, Lucille, and Ronaldo, who furnishes magicomcdy relief. Gram is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. As one of five similar two-hour stage productions in the country today, the House of Magic in cludes everything from modern legerdemain to authentic Orien tal magic comprised of secrets jealously guarded for centuries. The thrilling trunk escape act featured in Gram's show is the Identical escape staged by the late Harry Houdini for 15 years. Hou dini is still remembered for this act, although he died in 1926. Competing as the top spot in the show is the act in which Lu cille is sawed in half, as well as the sword box in which Lucille is locked, with dozens of swords be ing thrust through. ' Yoncalla YONCALLA James Hunting ton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Huntington arrived home last week, after spending two years with the Army in Europe. During his time with the Army, he lost the forefinger of his right hand. He and his wife, the former Katharyn Ehrlick, are building a new home on the Huntington ranch, where they will make their home. Guests at the Jay Huntington and Dare Kingery home over the weekend included Mrs. Mary Nichols and son, Richard, of Cor vallis; Mrs. Sarah Wertz of Kir by, Ore., and George Wetts of To ledo.
