Digby 2180 Laurel avenue, Salem, Ore., formerly of Roseburg, at six thirty o'clock Saturday evening. May 5. Arnold Banks, Church of Christ minister, officiated with the double ring ceremony. Before the ceremony tile ortjanist played a recital of nup Laure," theme song of the litt'r? l.auri," theme song of the little church, preceded the entrance of the bridal party. "Bridal Chorus" from Wagner's "Lohengrin" was used as the processional, contin ued as a lovely muted background for the words nf the wedding rit ual, and Mendclssohns' "Wedding March" was played for the reces sional. Wedding vows were exchanged before the altar which was bank ed with large baskets of white Calla lilies intertwined wiln pas tel spring flowers. Lighted tapers in standing branched candalabra were placed at each side of the altar wnn me Kneeling Lencn between thm. The maid of honor was Miss Janle Carter of Tulare, Calil. former classmate of the bride and groom. She wore a dusty rose gabardine suit with white acces sories and a corsage of white swectpeas. The bride, given in marriage by her mother, was gowned in a navy crepe street length dress, trimmed with white ruffles, a big off the face white staw hat, pearl earrings, and white silk elbow length gloves. For "some thing borrowed" the bride wore her mother's wrist watch. She carried a white prayer book top ped with a white orchid showered with stephanotis, from which hung white streamers. Blue streamers tied in the bouquet were for "Something Blue." The bride's mother, Mrs. Par ish, wore a mint green suit with black accessories and wore a cor sage of pink rosebuds. As the ceremony was concluded a shower of rose petals was re leased from above to drift down upon the bride and groom In gen tle floral benediction. Out of town guests at the wed ding were: : Mrs. Marie . Ko.ns, Mrs. Roland Stovall, Sandra Sto vall, Mrs. Arnold Banks and son, Kielh, Mary Hunt and Charles I McCormick. Immediately following the cer emony. Mr. and Mrs. Talbert left for a short honeymoon at Big Bear ake. Calif. The cuiinie ro turned to Texas May 13, and the bridegroom reported to his base at Maria, May 3. no nas since been transferred to Lincoln, Neb. where his wif'j has joined him. The bride is a graduate of Spring Lake High school and at tended Texas Technological col lege at Lubbock, Tex., where she was a member of Tau Beta Sig ma. Before !ier marriage she was employed by North American Air craft Inc., in Los Angeles. The bridegroom is a graduate of the Roseburg High school and attended the University of Min nesota at Mlneapolis. Ho has been in the Air Corps since July 194:1, and is now stationed wllh the Eastern Flying Command in Lin coln. Neb. Previous training cen ters have been Minnesota, Flor ida, California and lexas. Vic Rice, of the army, and Ins brother, Fireman Second Class Hoy Itie, of the navy, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Abner Rice, Dil lard, are both "playing" in their respective branches of the mili tnry services, but there is c wide variance in the type of "play." Vic plays ;h ; piano at Douglas, Arizona, nir field and Hoy plays baseball wkh the navy personnel team at Norfolk, Va. Vic, a graduate of Roseburg High school wilh the class of 1934, returned last November after 331 months in the South Pacific, having seen much com bat action in the Solomons. Prior to his enlistment he played piano with several "name'' bands, in cluding Ted Wcems, Jimmie Grier and Abe Lyman. While in training at March field, he or ganized and directed the first dance band at that air base. Now stationed at Douglas air base he spends nerly all of tils free time at (he recreation center and service clubs, entertaining trainees with his piano music. Hoy Doubles In Baseball The navy brother, Hoy, started out his career by ranking as top marksman among 60,000 recruits at Farragut, where he received his boot training. He was then slowed down by an operation, but since reaching Norfolk has been getting back in stride. He was assigned to first base on the personnel team, but in a tough game, when all of the reg ular pitchers failed to stop the opposing nine, Rice was shoved into the box, "scared to death" according to his own admission. Eut, despite the fact he was pitch ing for the first time in anything except a "sandlot" game, he stop ped the opposing team's rally, and hurled his own team to victory. Since that time he has been the No. 1 man on the pitching staff. Hoy graduated from Roseburg High school wilh the class of 19?t and entered naval training in May 1944.
