In reality, all of us have to live our own lives, though there are limits to our independence. Generally speaking, when a person insists "I have to live my own life," he is making an excuse lor doing what he knows he should not do. Such people fail to see that those who live on a high plane of Christian living are also living their own lives. Modern prodi gals, like the Prodigal Son, choose to live on a low level. On the other hand, people, who do great things are often people in revolt. Moses rebelled against the ease of Pharaoh's Court. Florence Nightingale revolted against the convention that kept women from serving as nurses. Jesus would not be bound by r religion that was formal and proud. The high road of life is filled with men and women who have revolted against a life of sin and selfish ness or ease. But their revolt has been upward to higher and better things. S. naval armed Ruard center, Treasure Island, Calif., after 12 months as a member of a gun crew of a merchant ship. The center directs tho training and assignment of all officers and enlisted personnel of navy gun crews of merchant vessels in the Pacific. Vvt. George Everett Hughes, son of Kcnna Hughes, Box 418, R. F. D. No. 2, Roseburg, has entered, the basic training cen ter at Keesbr Field, Miss., a unit of the army air forces trailing command, for several weeks of recruit drill. Miss Barabra Irwin of Glide enlisted in the marine corps women's reserve June 25, through the Portland recruiting station. She is now awaiting orders to report to Camp LeJeune, N. C, training base of all women ma rines. Pvt. Irwin is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen M. Irwin of Glide. Her brother, Chief Petty Officer William R. Irwin is serving with the navy at Corpus Christ!, Tex. ... Word has been received by relatives in Oakland that Pfc. Lynn "Doc" McNabb, U. S. army, has been on Okinawa since April and reports that he is in good health and that the weather there is similar to that in Oregon. Pfc. McNabb has been in the service about three years. Carnall and Jim Barnes spent several days camping along tho North Umpqua last week. They are for mer residents in the valley. Gus De Neff, who has been liv ing in the Sherman residence in Tenmile, is building a house in Olalla near the Monroe Arnold place. Henry Ireland was transacting business in Roseburg Tuesday. Henry has a fine flock of seven week old white leghorn pullets.
