New Oregon Mflk Bills Will Face Referendum SALEM. Ore., April 12-(AP) The Oregon Milk Producers Distributors will file a referen dum against three acts of the leg islature which require that milk rrom diseased herds be pasteur ized, the herds be tested for Bang's disease, and allowing the Department of Agriculture to set up mint grades ami standards, Henry Fruitiger, Portland, presi dent of the organization said to day. If the sponsors of the referen dum get 14,442 signatures on their petitions, the laws would be sus pended until the people vote on them In November, 1946. Submarine Scamp, Landing Craft Lost WASHINGTON, April 12 (AP) The submarine Scamp and a large support landing craft have been lost In the Pacific the navy announced todav. The submarine was reported overdue from patrol and presum ed lost and the LCS (L) (3) 49 was lost in the Philippines as the result ot enemy action. Normal complement of a sub marine is about 65 officers and men and of a landing craft of the type about 45. There was no report ot casual ties on (he landing craft. Collision of Tankers Takes Lives of 34 Men NEW YORK. April 12 (AP) The War Shipping administra tion disclosed today that 34 men are missing and two are known dead as the result of a collision between Iwo tankers Monday about 700 miles from New York The WSA said the tankers, Nashhulk and the St. Mihel, were In a convoy when the accident oc curred. The St. Mihel tnoj; fiv. the WSA said. It was brought under control after abandon ship orders had been given. Both ships have returned to New York.
