Mrs. A. H. Perrin, Mrs. G. V. Wimberly and Mrs. O. S. Chambers, assisted by Miss Jennie E. Jorey, enter tained the Roseburg Woman's club at a lovely one-thirty o clock dessert-luncheon Tuesday at the clubhouse. Tall yellow tapers ana artistic arrangements of spring blossoms Braced the tables and formed large bouquets about the rooms. Mrs. G. V. Wimberly, president, conducted the meeting. The in vocation was given by the club chaplain, Mrs. Morris M. noacn, with Mrs. Homer W. Grow play in? for the group singing and announcing the club program. Plans were announced for the annual camellia exhibit for Fri day and Saturday of this week. Mrs. Donn Radabauh gave a short talk on coming attractions picture theatres ard Mrs. Ken neth Ford gave a splendid talk on the educational system of China. Mrs. Paul Geddes, talented nianist, was cuest artist ana very charminelv Dlaved two piano se lections, "The Clown" and "Valse. The two guest speakers, Mrs. C. E. Roberts and Mrs. Robert L. Irving, presented one of the most interesting programs 01 me year. Mrs. Roberts gave excellent reviews of numerous books now available at. the Roseburg Public library and Mrs. Irving talkea on the history of the art of rug mak ing and exhibited a number of very beautiful rugs made by her and two made by her mother, in- law, Mrs. Lois Irving. Mrs. Murdock Is sewing chair man and all members of the club and friends interested In helping the Red Cross are invited to be orescnt. Members of the club! have expressed their desire for Mrs. Randolph Flagg to continue her travelog talks by giving one of the series of travcloRues at this sewing meeting. Mrs. Flagg's talks have added greatly to the sewing meetings and are very much ap preciated and enjoyed by the group. The next social meeting of the club will be held at one-thirty o'clock at the clubhouse May 1 with Mrs. A. J. Geddes and Mrs. F. W. Chase, hostess chairmen, assisted by Mrs. Carl Klaenhum mer. Outstanding musi cians of the community will assist Miss Strong with tly program, which wilt be open to all mem bers of the club and their invited guests. Following the program, tea will be served by the host esses. The program will be in ob servance of national music week. The nominating committee: Mrs. A. S. Coen, Mis. Len B. Fish back and Mrs. W. R. Brown, will make their report at the meeting and annual election of officers will be held. (VSlti-WEEK BIBLE CLASS ENTERTAINED AT VANG HOME ON THURSDAY Mrs. C. Vang very graciously entertained the Mid-Week Bible class of St. Paul's Lutheran church at her home on Hoover street Thursday afternoon. After the scriptural prayer by the pas-toi-, Rev. W. A. Sylwe.ster, the group studied the parable of the talents as recorded in Matthew 25. The group discussed purchas ing a stcreoptican machine for the purpose of showing pictures In -the Sunday school. A very pleasant social hour fal lowed and delicious refreshments were served by Mrs. Van, assisted by her mother, Mis. A. Rletman, to: Rev. and Mrs. W. A. Slywester and sons, John and Richard; Mi's. SOCIAL CLUB HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON The members of the Social club of George Slarmer auxiliary to United Spanish War veterans were graciously entertained at a salad-dessert luncheon Wednesday afternoon by Mrs. Rena Helblg, at her home on S. Pine St. Visit ing and sewing were enjoyed and later a business meeting was held. Those present were: Mrs. Clara Starmer, Mrs. Emma Taylor, Mrs. Elsie Wright, Mrs. Harriet Prihtz, Mrs. Hattle Rcdell, Mi's. Minnie L. Bailey, Mrs. Pearl Shu gart, Mrs. Irene Williams and the hostess, Mrs. Helblg. The next meeting of the club will be Anril 25. Meeting place to be announced later. MARILOU MORI8ETTE IS HOSTESS TO CAMP FIRE GROUP AT EASTER PARTY Marllou Morlsette entertained her Camp Fire group at a very delightful Easter party at her at tractive home on east Lane street Monday afternoon. Pratt was very happily observed by tnem at their home in West Salem during the weekend of March 18 and 19th. These dates also Includeed the birthdays or the honored couple. A greeting shower was planned for them by tneir two daughters and they were the recipients of nearly two hundred lovely expressions of love and friedshlp from relatives and friends in many distant states as well as those in their home city and vicinity. Many beautiful and appropiate gifts were also re ceived from family and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Pratt are mem bers of the Calvary Baptist church and have given many years of sincere service in Its work. They were happily sur prised when they were given a very lovely anniversary gift from the church, which was presented to them at their home by Rev. and Mrs. Charles Durden. A beau tiful floral arrangement, honor ing Mr. and Mrs. Pratt, and given by their two daughters, graced the church rostrum during the Sunday services the date preced ing the anniversary. A family dinner was enjoyed at the West Salem home Sunday. The table was centered with a four-tiered gold and white wed ding cake made by their daugh ter, Mrs. Clyde Beard, and the rooms were attractively decorat ed with flowers in shades of gold and yellow. Marilyn and Donald Beard, grandchildren, played piano numbers for the occasion. Those present for the annivers ary dinner were. Mr. and Mrs. Pratts' two daughters, Mrs. Bern Wright, who is librarian at the Parrish Junior high school In Salem, and Mrs. Clyde Beard and two children, Marilyn and Don ald, of McMinnvllle. Mr. Beard, son-in-law, was unable to attend the occasion, due to his absence from the state as director of public relations for Linficld col lege. Mr. and Mrs. Pratt were mar ried in Corvallis March 19, 1895, by Rev. W. H. Dorward. Mrs. Pratt's father, who was pastor of the Corvallis Baptist church at the time. The couple left for; Iowa, where Mr. Pratt was en-! gaged In banking and real estate work and where their three child ren were born. Later the family moved west, locatfng In Califor nia and finally to Oregon, where Mr. Pratt continued in clerical and real estate work until re tirement In West Salem. .Their only son, Dorward Collins, veter an of World War I, passed away severai years ago in Salem. The many friends of the couple wish them many more years of happiness together. Both Mr. and Mrs. Pratt are very well known in Roseburg, where they visited frequently during the res idence here of their daughter, Mrs. Clyde Beard, and family, while Mr. Beard was principal of the senior high school, ine Beards made their home in Rose- burg for IS years, moving only last spring to Mcjviinnvine. JUNIOR WOMAN'S CLUB HAS INTERESTING MEETING j ON MONDAY EVENING The Junior Woman's club held an interesting meeting Monday evening at the clubhouse with Mrs. Bernard Saar, president, in charge. Mrs. Donald White was appointed to represent the clubi at the public relations dinner to be sponsored next Monday eve ning by the B. P. W. C. at the Hotel Umpqua. Mrs. White is vice-president 01 the ciud. Members are urged to turn in their milk bottle contributions to Mrs. J. E. Henlx-st at Weber's bakery within the next week. The next meeting of the club was announced for April 16 to be in the form of a seven o'clock pot luck supper at the clubhouse. Dcs sert will be furnished by the com mittee and those attending are asked to bring a covered dish or a salad. Mrs. Perry Thiele will act as chairman of the affair. NORTHSIDE SUNSHINE CLUB MEETS AT INGELS HOME ON THURSDAY Mrs. Lucia Ineels was a most gracious hostess to the Northside Sunshine club Thursday after noon at her home on Winchester street. Spring flowers and Easter decorations carried but a pretty motif for the occosion. A short business meeting was In charge of the president, Mabel Patterson. A donation of $2.50 was given to the Red Cross and also $2.50 was given to the Sal vation Army for 'War relief. Albany-Toledb Utility Line Building Begun PORTLAND, April 6 (AP) woi Kers are expected to start clearing the right of way for con struction of a 48-mile power transmission line between Albany ad Toledo early in May, state WMC director L. C. Stoll said to day. A manpower priority for the work has been issued to the Bon neville power administration. Better service from Newport to Coos Bay and central Lincoln county will be provided through the project. Bonneville plans an addition to the Albany substa tion and a new substation at To ledo to carry the power load. Deep Sea Trailer Lost in Nanoose Bay; Crew Saved NANAIMO, B. C, April 6 (Canadian Press) Loss of the 40-foot deep sea trailer Lindora after striking a reck ledge In Na noose buy. 27 miles from here on the northwest coast of Van couver island, was reported yes terday. The entire crew Was rescued. The vessel was en route from Seattle to the Alaska fishing banks.
