OBSERVED BY CHURCH SUTHERUN Sunday was . observed as Family Sunday at the Sutherlin Christian church at which time the importance , of unity in the family was being . stressed. During the Bible school , hour a special program was pro - sentcd. Those in charge of the program were: Dorothy Long " brake, Don West and Rev. New ; ell Morgan. WOMEN'S SOCIETY HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING The Women's Society of Chris tian Service met at the Methodist church Thursday for a delightful one o'clock potluck luncheon with Mrs. J. E. Dent, chairman, asslKt- , ed by Mrs. C. K. Richardson and Mrs. K. L. Whipple. The St. fat- rick's motif and bouquets of col orful spring flowers carried out the decorations. Following the luncheon, Mrs. ' A. J. Geddes, president, conduct ' ed a business session with Mrs. . W. J. Adair presenting the devo tions. Mrs. W. Howard Pattlson ' sang two solos. "The Earth is the Lord's", and "Into the Woods My . Master Went." Mrs. Kenneth Ford presented the very Interest ' lng program talk on "China and this Changing World." MID-WEEK BIBLE CLASS -TO MEET AT VOGT HOME The Mid-Wcck Bible class ot St.. ..Paul's Lutheran church will meet Thursday at two o'clock at the ""home of Mrs. William Vogt on ""Wharton avenue. Ground M County Myrtle Creek MYRTLE CREEK Mr. and Mrs. Adam Frederick of Spring field; Mrs. Mary Park, VVilla mlna; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Freder ick of Salem, and Mr. and Mrs. John Frederick all attended the funeral of their mother, Mrs. Car oline Frederick, last Tuesday at the Methodist church. Huey, an other son, Who Is at Anchorage, Alaska, was unable to attend. The community was shocked Thursday morning to hear of the tragic death of Mrs. Maud Sitter, postmaster at Myrtle Creek, who had resigned and was teaching school at Camas Valley. When she failed to arrive at the school- house some of the patrons In quired into the matter and found her dead at her home. She is the mother of three sons; one lives in Oakland, Calif., and was expect ed to arrive Friday and one is In the navy. The youngest Is a crip ple. Mrs. Sitter taught three or lour years at ucciar urovc anu is well-known here. Mrs. Harriet Reilz of Lake Ge neva. Wlscaiisin, is visiting in Myrtle Creek with her slstcr-in-Iaw, Mrs. Cora Stone, and her nephew, Philip. The first Thursday evening of each month Is church night at the local Church of Christ, and it is the social meeting of the congre gation. After a bountiful polluck supper Is served, nn impromptu program is presented. Mr. and Mrs. George Aken, Sr. have moved their house on Divi sion street back and turned it ar ound. While making the change they moved out but will soon bei "At home" to their friends again. Mr. and Mrs. Lark Brown of Warrcnton, accompanied 'by al Roseburg friend, Mrs. Carl An derson, were Mvrtle Creek visl- tprs last Tuesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Peterson, who formerly lived at Wurrentnn. Other old friends visited were Mr. and Mrs. C. C. March. Mt. and Mrs. A. H. James of Buttee, Montana, arrived last Tuesday, for a week's visit with their son-in-law and daughter and their children, who are living in the McGovern house east ot town. Mrs. Dorothy Bates Schwieger and baby son, Gary Lee, have gone to Portland for a visit with relatives. Mrs. Schwieger Is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. It. Bates. Mrs. Carl Backlud of Melrose, visited here last week with her daughter, Mrs. Glenn Thackrcy and Mrs. Tinv Oliver. The Christian and Methodist churches are uniting for the eve ning sei-vices. The two churches are put ting on the service Easter eve ning and are practicing their music now. , James Brown, U. S. Army, has been home on furlough, visiting with his mother, Mrs. May Brown and his brother, Charles. He left Thursday. Tenmile PFC Glenn Coats arrived the first of the week from San Diego, Calif, for a few days visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gearld Coats. Glen has recently return ed from a year in the South Paci fic war theatre. He is well known In Tenmile having attended grade school here. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Barnes and small daughter, Judy, from Ab erdeen, Wash., are visiting friends and relatives here and in Dillard. They are former resi dents of Tenmile. Dode Bcnniriick and Earl Coop er returned the last of the week from a business trip to The Dalles. They report cold weather and hard winds in that section. Mrs. Gertrude Ward, grand daughter, Connie Ward and Mrs. Gearld Coats visited Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Vance and family in Myr tle point several days this week. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Inlow have recently returned from a visit to Oklahoma where they were cal led by the severe illness of Mrs. Inlows' father. Mr. and Mrs. Harrv Smith have sold their place in Reston to a Mr. j ana rars. rsrown irom Los An geles, who have already taken possession. Barth olomy, of Portland, were week end guests of the former's brother-in-law and sister. Mr. and Mrs. George Sunberg. They were ac companied on the trin bv their daughter, Miss Doris Elaine who is a student at the Willamette University and will spend her spring vacation with her uncle and aunt.
