Red Cross War Work WOMEN'S STUDY CLUB HAS DELIGHTFUL MEETING YONCALLA, One of the out standing meetings of the year of the Yonealla Women's Study club, was held Thursday after noon at the beautiful new home of Mrs. John Kruse. The Kruse home has just been remodeled and repainted. The theme of the meeting was "Pioneer Day", also guest day. Mrs; Kruse assisted By her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fred Kruse, were both dressed in pioneer dresses and graciously met the guests at the door. Mrs. Bainbridge of English Settlement and Mrs. Zenger were also dress ed in pioneer dresses. A delicious two course luncneon was enjoyed, followed by the program and regular meeting. Roll call was answered to by each lady giving short talks on "Early American Fashions," reminiscing on pioneer days. One ol the outstanding re sponses was made by Mrs. Lam berson, a guest, whose parents, and also her husband's parents were among those early settlers, who so galantly crossed the plains, and settled In Our Beauti ful Oregon. Mr. Lamberson's par ents came west, going around the Horn and up the coast. Mrs. Kruse was presented with a beau tiful mirror from the members of the club for her new home. BANQUET HELD BY CLASS AT HOTEL UMPQUA YONCALLA The senior class of Yonealla high school enjoyed a very pleasant evening, Thursday night, when they motored to Roseburg, and held a banquet at the Umpqua hotel, followed by a theater party. Mr. and Mrs. Par sons chaperoned the class. Busenbark, Roseburg, has arrived in Hawaii to serve the armed forces as an American Red Cross staff assist ant. Until her Red Cross appoint ment, Miss Busenbark was a rep rcsentatjve for the U. S. Civil Service commission in Portland. She is a graduate of Roseburg Hirrh school and Oregon State college, and attended Iowa State college. Reported IU Mrs. G. Monday Visitors Mrs. Wil liam DeWitt and Miss Mary Alice Randall of Sutherlin were Mon- day visitors In Roseburg OPA Faces Hard Task To Fill Reedsport Post REEDSPORT The district supervisor of the OPA has been busily engaged in Reedsport this week interviewing business men and others with a view to an ap pointment of a new chairman of the local rationing board to fill the place of John linger, who re cently resigned after continuous service since the board was or ganized four years ago. It is re ported that the sunervisor has met with continuous rebuff and also that Mr. Unger has not yet been informed from the Portland headquarters whether his resigna tion has been accepted. In the meantime Mr. Unger, who is a member ot the city council, has been selected by that body as the president for the en suing year, which is considered by many as a vote of confidence in his integrity, which it is claimed was questioned when he submitted his resignation as chairman of the local war price and rationing body. Food Specialist Is Assigned to Douglas County Doris McWhorter has been as signed to the county agent's of fice as war food assistant In con nection with the food production and conservation program for a six months period, January 1 to July 1. Miss McWhorter will work out of the county agent's office under the supervision of Mrs. Azalea Sager, state home demon stration leader for Oregon State college agricultural extension ser vice. Miss McWhorter Is a graduate in home economics from O. S. C, and has done advanced work In eastern institutions. Her work in connection with the food produc tion and conservation program will be with organized group of women in planning the family food supply, methods of canning, drying, preserving and freezing of foods, methods of cookery to conserve vitamins and food values, and other production and conservation practices for im proved diets and health. Grange home economic clubs, community clubs, women's clubs or other women's organizations desiring to have meetings and demonstrations pertaining t o foods and nutrition are requested to contact Miss McWhorter at the county agent's office. NEWS OF OUR M ENaWWOMEN IN UNIFORM Mr. and Mrs. Paul Blaskey of Roseburg have received word that their grandson, Corporal Chester Hafer, is somewhere In Germany and states that he is in good health and the weather is much improved to what it has been.' They received word also of their grandson, PFC Robert Hafer, that he took part In the invasion of the Philippine islands and was witli the anti-aircraft division. Mrs. Blaskey states that her son, Corporal Warren W. Lucas, is still stationed in Iran. He has been there about 18 months. Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Harrison of Ump qua that their son, Staff Sgt. Keith Harrison, has landed in France and sends New Year's greetings to all his friends. Neil Talcott has landed some where in France according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Talcott oi uncle. Mr. Young gave a report on a meeting of the board of directors of the state associa tion which he attended recently at Portland. Word has been received by friends that Ben Sera fin, former Yonealla Walter Thorp left last week for Richmond, Calif., where he will rejoin his regiment of the U. S. army. Don Thorp went to Fort Old.
