I, f SojcMy and Clu&A By LOTUS KNIGHT PORTER R1VERSDALE GRANGE TO HOLD XMAS PARTY FRIDAY Riversdale grange met at a 6: 30 potluck quarterly birthday supper Friday evening at the hall and made plans for the an nual grange Christmas party to be held Friday evening ol this week at 8 o'clock at the hall. Those attending are asked to bring inexpensive gifts to ex change and the ladies are asked to bring popcorn, nuts or cookies for the refreshments. Plans were made for a social affair and dance to be held at nine o'clock Dec. 30 at the hall. Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Tipton and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Myers will be in charge of the kitchen commit tee. The next regular grange meet ing was announced for January 5 at 8:15 p. m. at the hall with refreshments in charge of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harmon, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Love, Mr. and Mrs. Graham En-ens and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Ewens. C. T. Tipton, master, conducted the meeting and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ritchey and Melva and Amy Richardson, of Fairview North Fork Coos No. 739 grange were admitted to Riversdale grange by demit and Mr. and Mrs. John Cornilsen were given the first and second degree obligations by Mr. Tipton. Darley Ware, agriculture chair man discussed "Rate of industrial income with milk rating first; sheep second, and turkeys third. A discussion on a "Cooperative butchering plan" now under con struction, and a need for such a plant in the area, was held. Frank Denton, legislative mem ber, discussed the income tax laws and stated farmers esti mates for 1944 should be in by January 15, 1945. Alice Kruse, chaplain, suggest ed sending Christmas cards to all members from the grange now serving In the armed forces. Adam Schneider reported the grange supply would soon close the grain cleaning department for a time and all persons having grain to be cleaned, should get It to the department just as soon as possible. W. O. Patterson, county depu ty, gave an interesting report on the deputies convention recently held at Bend, Ore. 8URPRISE PARTY GIVEN MR. AND MRS. The Christmas story from the gospel of Luke waa very beauti fully read by Mrs. Campbell, aft er which group singing of Christ mas carols was enjoyed. Those present were: Mrs. Ed na May Hayward, hostess, Mrs. W. M. Campbell, Mrs. Orlcna Slattery, Mrs. Reba Hartley, Mrs. J. E. Sawyers, Mrs. Paula Ander son, Mrs. Lucia Delaney, Mrs. Iva Springer, Miss Verna Caroth ers, Miss Vera f'redrickson, Miss Gertrude Rast, Miss Alice-Virginia I lanes and Miss Elnor Sherk. The January meeting will be held at the home of Elnor Sherk at 420 S. Stephens street with Alice-Virginia 1 lanes as hostess. MELROSE H. E. C. HAS ANNUAL XMAS PARTY The Melrose grange home ec onomics club held its annual Christmas party at the lovely home of Mrs. Lawrence Dlnlcy Wednesday afternoon. Plans were made for the pot luck supper to be held at the grange's nevt meeting. Gifts were exchanged and visiting was en joyed during the social hours The rooms were beautifully deco rated with the Christmas motif. EDEN LADIES AID HAS FINE MEETING The annual meeting of Eden Lutheran Ladies Aid was held Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gunner Johnson In Elgarose. Mrs. E. O. Bloomquist, president, conducted the 'meeting and fol lowinc the devotions, election of officers was held. ENGAGEMENT OF GLENN GURNEY AND VIVIAN PERRY TOLD The engagement of Glenn Gur ney of Umpqua and Miss Vivian Perry of Sebastopol, Calif., was recently announced, according to word received in Roseburg.
