Visiting for Christmas Holidays -Mr. George Brown of Davton, Ohio, is visiting in Roseburg with her sister, Mrs. R. D. Wil liams, 302 S. Pine, for the Christ mas holidays. Visiting Family Kenneth Mc Coy and family of Creswell, Ore., spent Sunday with his mother, Mrs. Emuiine Walker, of Rose burg, and a brother, Earl McCoy, at Sutherlin. Leaves for Medford Mrs. E. L. Henninger of Roseburg left today for Medford to attend a Christma party with friends and will be an overnight guest at the home of Mrs. W. E. Nicholson. Returns to Roseburg Mr. and Mrs. Fred P. Fisher have return ed to Roseburg after an exten sive visit in Eugene where they visited their daughter, Mrs. Ma rion Buchanan, and attended to business. To Attend Meeting Mrs. T.u1a C Gorrell, county school super intendent, is attending the meet ing of the state department of education at Salem, and will visit there over the holidays with friends. Returns to Duty John B. Strickle, AOM 2c, who has been visiting at the home of his pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Strickle, 307 E. Oak. has returned for duty at the U. S. N. A. S. at Norfolk, Va. Arrives Home Bernard Saar, II. S. army, who has been serving overseas in the South Pacific since the opening of the war, has ar rived in Roseburg to spend his furlough visiting his wife, the former Helen Wetherell, and with his parents. Chapter Discusses Legislation Legislative matters of interest to school teachers were discussed at a banquet meeting at the Rose burg high school Tuesday eve ning. The meeting was called by the Douglas county chapter of the Oregon State Teachers asso ciation, Ivan C. Parker, president of the county chapter, presiding. Discussion of the proposed teachers' retirement bill was di rected by Mrs. Lula C. Gorrell, county school superintendent, and Paul S. Elliott, superintendent of the Roseburg schools led the dis cussion on state school sunport. State Senator Thomas Parkin son and Representative Carl C. Hill were in attendance. Repre sentative Robert Gile was unable to attend. Banquet arrangements were di rected by Mrs. Violet Wilshlre, secretary-treasurer of the county chapter. Traffic Law Breakers Pay $65 in Fines Here Three fines of $10 each were paid into the Roseburg justice court today by Lee Whitney, who pleaded guilty, JucIpo Thomas C. Hartfiel reported, to operating a car lacking a windshield wiper and tail light, while four adults rode in the driver's compartment. A fine of S25 was paid by Daniel D. Francis for operating a mo tor vehicle without headlights and Earl S. Raddatz paid $10 for driving a truck without public utility commission permit. Camas Valley High Five Defeats Jacksonville The Camas Valley high school basketball team journeyed to Jacksonville Saturday night and defeated the high school team there 27 to 15. Barnhart, veteran Camas Valley player, was high scorer with 11 points. Distribution Control of Lumber to Be Tightened WASHINGTON, Dec. 21 (AP) Tighter controls over lumber distribution were envisaged today by the War Production board.
