William Banks entertained the Girl Scouts and their mothers at a tea. The table was decorated with bright flowers and candles. There were dainty sandwiches, cookies, cakes and candies. Annetta Barn hart and Joanne Lawsbn poured the tea. The girls played games on the lawn and the mothers vis ited. Those present were: Mrs. Phil Packard a p d daughter, Melve Elaine, Mrs. Rudy Naiman and daughter, Hulda, Mrs. Brown Wakefield and daughters, Marie, Doris and Helen, Mis. Louis Papst and daughter, Doris, Mrs. Emery Thrush and daughter, Dorene, Mrs. Milton and daugh ler, Jeanne, Mrs. T. G. RELIEF SEWING GROUP TO MEET ON THURSDAY All women interested in sewing for the Christian Science War Re lief work are asked to attend the meeting at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Perkins build ing. Mrs. Annie L. Russell, sew ing chairman, has reported that a great demand for completed ar ticles is being made and more Women are urgently needed to as sist with the sewing. Mrs. Russell states that the women of the county had been especially fine in answering the call for sewing for the needy. Huge shipments of woolen mate rials and articles have been made from Douglas county and sent overseas. LADY ELKS TO MEET THUR8DAY EVENING The Lady Elks will meet Thursday evening at 8 o'clock at the temple with Mrs. L.' L. Wim bcrly, president, in charge of the meeting. The social hour will be spent in playing contract bridge and pinochle with high score prizes being awarded to the win ners. All Lady Elks are urged to be present. SUTHERLIN The Boy and Girl Scouts enjoyed a very unique ! trip Saturday night, when Andy Hcmpcnious rigged up hjs hay rack and took them all for a ride to Elkhead, Ore.j where they en joyed an evening of dancing old time dances. At a late hour a sumptuous potluck luncheon was served by the committee In charge. NORTH8I OE SUNSHINE CLUB TO MEET THURSDAY Tho Northside Sunshine club will meet Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Stella Payne, north of Roseburg. Pollyanna gifts will be exchanged and bingo will be played during the social hours. All members arc cordially invited to bo present. GILCHRIST HONORED AT DINNER SUTHERLIN A very unus ual occasion was enjoyed Wed nesday evening, when the board of directors of the Sutherlin school district No. 130 and their wives, entertained Mr. and Mrs. Winston A. Gilchrist at dinner in the banquet room of the Suther lin hotel. The theme of the decorations was the accomplishments during Mr. Gilchrist's superintendency in Sutherlin. The centerpiece on the dining table was a "bond" basket rep resenting the last of the bonded indebtedness. The flowers were yellow "out-standing" warrants that have been paid while the piacecards were "butterflies" made from "blank" checks that represented economy in the oper ation of the school. After the dinner the party went tc tho Coenenberg home where "Zion Check" running was en Joyed until a late hour, wilh Mr. Gilchrist winning first prize for the men and Mrs. Icel Clark first for the ladies.
