Rhoden, pres ident, will conduct the session. Portland Visitor Here Mrs. Lilly Pearson of Portland arriv ed in Roseburg last night to visit at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Pearson, and family, on Reser voir avenue. Returns to Eugene Miss Rose Mary Fishback has returned to her studies at University of Ore gon and Northwest Christian college at Eugene, following the weekend at her home here visit ing her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Len B. Fishback. Visiting at Jenkins Home Mrs. Clark Leedy, nee Meredith Anne Jenkines, of Seattle Is spending the week vacationing and visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jenkins, in Laurel wood. En route back to her work In Seattle, she will stop over in Brooks, Ore., to visit her parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Leedy. Leave for Montana Pat Jan nelli and Don Brumback left Sunday night for Bozeman, Mont., to enter the university for the army air forces training pro gram. Both were graduated this spring from Roseburg senior high school. The former made his home at the Judge C. E. Jack and Mr. Mur dock had spent the day cruising some timber up the creek, for the Douglas county court. Cruising timber is a good hik ing job, particularly in the area mentioned here to gain a mile forward a fellow has to travel another one, up and down. To Attend Funeral The Past Noble Grands club has asked all Rebekahs to meet at the I. O. O. F. hall Wednesday at 1:45 p. m. to attend the funeral of Mrs. F. E. Erickson. Working at Penney's Mrs. L. G. Stanton of Roseburg has ac cepted employment in the ladies ready-to-wear department of the Roseburg J. C. Penney company store. Practice Annaunced All girls interested in playing Softball and organizing a Softball team are asked to meet for a practice at Finlay field Wednesday evenine, June 7, at 7 o'clock. Those at tending are asked to bring their own lunch. Visitors Leave Mr. and Mrs. James Redbarn left today for their home in Marshfield, fol lowing a visit in Roseburg with the latter s parents, Dr. and Mrs. S. L. DeLapp, and other relatives and friends. Mrs. Redbarn was formerly Kathryn DeLapp. Mr. Redbarn expects to leave Marsh field within the next few days to enter the army. Porter, of Reseda, Calif., have left for their homes, following a visit with Mrs. George Holm and family. In Happy valley. 'artny. !He is a former student of Roseburg senior high school. , Camas Valley CAMAS VALLEY A. W. Gell er took Mrs. Geller to Portland to a clinic. She Is now under a doc tor's care until she Is ready for a necessary operation. She Is staying with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Denn. Roy Adams came from Califor nia to visit Mr. and Mrs. John T. Miller, who are living in the place that was the Johnson service sta tion on Cumas mountain. He bought the property from Mrs. Johnson and has gone back to California to sell his place there and move up. He is an auto me chanic. Mr. and Mrs. I. Buck and four children have moved into the house that was Nat Kirkendall's I home, which they have purchas ed. I hey have been living in Eu gene since they moved from the valley a year ago. Jeanne Moore has gone to Eu gene to visit with her mother for a week before leaving for Okla homa, where she will spend the summer with her grandmother. She has enlisted In the army nursing corps for the September training class. ,.'oe Brown had his leg badly hurt while working In the woods and had to be taken to the hospi tal In Myrtle Point. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Smith "mc home for Memorial day. They are both working In the shipyards at Vancouver. They have purchased a small acreage with a six-room house on lt near Sutherlin. They expect to keep their cabin on Camas mountain for a hunting lodge. Mrs. A. Shafer, who resides on the place she bought from A. J. Standley, has recently purchased the twenty-eight acres adjoining the property that belonged to Mrs. Guy Lawson. Mrs. Ed Joyce underwent a ma jor operation at the Marshfield hospital last week and is slowly Improving. Rather a coincidence, as Mr. Mur - dock hadn't known his uncle nad worked in that locality. Loggers who have purchased this timber and other stands up Coffee creek are preparing to construct a road to their holdings, which will branch from the high way at a point near Mary Fur long's house and take up the west bank of the creek. Most of tne right-of-way has been arranged for. Strange, who with her husband, the latter engaged in the sawmill business at Myr tle Creek, came to Roseburg two months ago from Seattle, died last night at Mercy hospital fol lowing a short illness. Mr. and Mrs. Strange had been making their home at the Umpqua hotel. Mrs. Strange was born Jan. 1, 1S88, In Massachusetts. Surviving are her husband and one son, Roy M. Strange, Seattle. Funeral services will he held at the Roseburg Undertaking company chapei at 4:30 p. m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Morris H. Roach. The body will be taken to Portland for interment. Death Strikes Local Worker Day Before Birthday Harry Smith, 45, resident of Camp View, died suddenly yester day morning. He was employed by the Todd Construction Co. on the building being erected for the Hansen Motor company When he was stricken by a heart attack, and death followed within a few minutes. He was born at Bismarck, 1 North Dakota, June 6, 1899, and was married to Elsie Krueger at Mlnot, North Dakota, April 14 1936. He came to Oregon about a year ago from Idaho, residing for a time at Sutherlin, and since February has made his home in Roseburg. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elsie Smith, of Roseburg, and three sisters: Mrs. Louis E. Gil bert, St. Paul, Minnesota; Mrs. S. B. Bye, Fargo, North Dakota; Vi vian Smith, Daisy, Wash. The body has been removed to the Doi'as Funeral home and will be forwarded tonight to Bis marck, North Dakota.
