Hew Service Laundry & Dry Cleaners CALL 88 , BY LOTUS KNIGHT PORTER Mrs. Homer Grow Presents Annual Spring Program For Woman's Club One of the largest and most charming events of the spring season was the annual spring birthday tea and program of the Roseburg Woman s club held at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the clubhouse with Mrs. Homer Grow as program chairman and Mrs. I. B. Riddle and Mrs. Walter Good, joint chairmen of the tea. assisted by Mrs. R. W. Marsters, Mrs. W. R. Brown and Mrs. Fost er Butner. Gorgeous bouquets of dogwood, wisteria, tulips, syringa, duetzia and lilacs were artistically ar rangecUabout the rooms by Mrs. Velle Broadway and Mrs. H. O. Pargeter. The tea table, covered by an attractive lace cloth, was centered with a silver candel labra holding pink and yellow tapers and flanked by graceful bouquets of - wisteria, tulips and double lilacs. Mrs. G. V, Wimber ly, club president, and Mrs. George K. Quine poured. Mem bers having birthdays between the dates of January 1 and June 30 acted as hostesses with the committee in charge. Mrs. G. V. Wimberly graciously welcomed the guests and mem bers and introduced Mrs. Grow, who has so very efficiently acted as club anouncer and music chair man of the club. Mrs. Grow opened the program with a short talk on National Music week and introduced the following: Miss Gladys H. Strong and Mrs. Clyde Beard, who mar velously played two piano duets by Grieg and followed by playing a Slavic dance; Mrs. Charles A. Brand very beautifully sang, "She Stands There Smil ing," "Wholl Buy My Lavend er," and 'Speak To Me of Love," accompanied by Miss Gladys H. Strong at the piano; Miss Mar garet Page very ably presented the dramatic reading, "The Watchman" and followed with the charming encore, "Civers;" Mrs. Morris H. Roach played two very lovely violin numbers, "Play Fiddle Play" and "To a Wild Rose," accompanied by Mrs. Homer Grow, and R. M. Church concluded the program by sing ing the three beautiful numbers "Machushla," "For- You Alone" o'clock in evening at I.O.O.F. hall. Friday, May 12. Florence Nightingale Tent No. 15, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War to meet at 7:30 p. m. at Woman's clubhouse. Saturday, May 13. FORMER ROSEBURG GIRL APPOINTED FIELD WORKER IN CAMP FIRE WORK Mrs. Jean Carothers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Strawn, formerly of Roseburg and now of Billings, Montana, has recently Been appointed county field work er for Camp Fire Girls at Den ver, Colo, She will cover three counties. Mrs. Carothers was formerly a member of the Pottawatomie Camp Fire group in Roseburg and was active for many years In the work here. We have no more hangers and will be unable to get any for the duration. If you want your clothes returned In per fect order, please co-operate by bringing In a hanger with and "Dawn," accompanied by Mrs. Grow and with Mrs. Roach playing the violin obligato for the last two numbers. Mrs: Grow and those taking part on the program wore highly complimented for their splendid performance, which was greatly enjoyed. NORTHSIDE SUNSHINE CLUB IS ENTERTAINED AT PATTERSON HOME The Northside Sunshine club was entertained Thursday after noon at the home of Mrs. W. O. ART AND EMBROIDERY CLUB MEETING IS ENJOYED WEDNESDAY The Roseburg Art and Embroi dery club held an enjoyable Wed nesday aftcrnon at the home of Mrs. Henry Worthington on East Lane street. Tulips, primroses, heather and other spring flowers were used about the rooms. The group also enjoyed the flower garden of the hostess. At the tea hour Mrs. Worthing ton, assisted by Mrs. Frank Bergh and Mrs. William Bailey, served delicious refreshments. Those enjoying the occasion with the hostess included: Mrs. Frank Bergh, Mrs. Earl Decker, Mrs. George Cluck, Mrs. J. G. Stephen son, Mrs. Page, Mrs. A. Neal, Mrs. C. W. MARJORIE CASEBEER ENTERTAINS AT INFORMAL DINNER ON SUNDAY Mrs. Marjorle Casebeer and daughter, Jo Ann, entertained as their dinner guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Marr and son, Har old. Miss Jo Ann accompanied the Marr family home and was their guest overnight, returning to her home in Roseburg Mon day. Sunday evening, Mrs. Casebeer entertained as her guests: Mrs. Anna Nickson and her three granddaughters, Miss Betty, Miss Suzanne and Miss Sally Hahn. WOMEN'S COUNCIL HAS INTERESTING MEETING AT FISHBACK HOME The monthly meeting of the Women's Council of the First Christlain church was held at the home of Mrs. Len B. Fishback Friday with Mi's. Fred Johnson and Mrs. W. H. Carter acting as hostesses. "Jesus the Example" was the theme for the worship service conducted by Mrs. W. H. Carter, assisted by Mrs. Jim Miller. Mrs. Fish back, Missionary president, had charge of the busl- ness meeting and study lesson continuing the book "For All of Life" by Wiser. A paper-bag lunch was follow- ed by the Ladies Aid meeting in charge of the president, Mrs. Alice Carter. JOB'S DAUGHTERS BENEFIT CARD PARTY IS SUCCESSFUL AFFAIR As a benefit for the promotion and educational fund of the Ore gon Job's Daughers, a very charming public card party was arranged by the senior princess or Roseburg bethel. Miss Fred- icka Hamilton, and was held Wednesday evening at the Ma sonic temple. Thirty-two tables were reserv ed for the affair. Colorful spring blossoms carried out a pretty mo tif for the occasion. Mrs. Leslie C. Cummings won the evening's door prize with Mrs. Leo Young winning tne bridge prize; Mrs. George Crenshaw, the five-hun dred prize, and; Robert Harvie, the pinochle prize. Lovely refreshments were serv ed later in the eevnlng by Miss Hamilton, assisted by Miss Jeanne Dillard, Miss Ruth Bov- Ingdon and Miss Marion Slattery.
