WARFORO MARRY ON JANUARY 5 Margaret Lou Pendergrass, Roseburg, and Sergeant James L. Warford, of Detroit, Mich., were married at a very impressive dou ble ring ceremony January 5 at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Charles A. Edwards. Dr. Edwards per formed the ceremony in the presence of relatives and close friends of the couple. The bride wore an attractive powder blue ensemble with fus chia accessories and a corsage of carnations. For traveling she chose a pin-stripe powder blue su!t with black accessories. Fol lowing the ceremony, the bride and bridegroom left for Detroit, Mich., to visit the latter's mother and stopped over In Chicago for a visit. The bridegroom has re turned to Camp Adair, Corvallis, and is being transferred in the near future to Fort Sill, Okla., to take radio instruction, while the bride has returned to Roseburg to make her home with her moth er, Mrs. M. Lytle will be the guest speaker at the Roseburg Woman's club annual Valentine party at a one-thirty o'clock des sert-luncheon at the clubhouse next Tuesday, February 1, with Mrs. W. M. Campbell and Mrs. E. L. Knapp, hostess chairmen, as sisted by Mrs. C. E. Jump and Mrs. C. H. Bailey. Members are requested to each bring their baby picture and any "courting days" pictures that they have. Mrs. Lytle will review the life of Lin Yutang, foremost living Chinese philosopher and will also review some of his articles and books including, "The Importance of Living" and "My Country and My People." HAS INTERESTING MEETING ON MONDAY EVENING The Business and Professional Women's club met Monday eve ning with Mary Moore, Mildred Horn and Ruth Roberts In charge of the interesting topic, "Health Protection in Wartime." Gene Mills, president, conducted the business meeting, after which Mrs. Moore, gave an exceptionai ly fine talk on the evening's sub ject and on the Infantile Paraly sis drive. Following the meeting the group went to a benefit card par ty at the Elks temple to assist with the affair, which also aided the Infantile Paralysis fund. Members present included: Ina Farnsworth, Carrie Bell, Elnor Shcrk, Alvla Wetherell, Carmen Clark, Thelma Young, Florence Snedaker, Ruth Hodson, Vera Frederickson, Amanda Anderson, Ruth Roberts, ula Parkinson, Laura lies, Arlenc Meyers, Gene Mills, Mary Moore and Cornelia McCallister. The next meeting will be a Valentine party at the clubhouse February 14 with Peace Fox, Gene Selleck and Ruth Hodson in charge. DELPHIAN CLUB HAS MEETING AT BELL HOME ON WEDNESDAY The Delphian club met Wednes day afternoon at the home of Mrs. William Bell op South Jack son street with Mrs. A. J. Ged des as program leader of the top 'ar, "Picasso and Modern Art Movements." Reports were given by Mrs. Geddes, Mrs. Washington Hughes, Mrs. A. J. Young, Mrs. C. A. Chamberlin, Mrs. J. C. Mc Callister and Mrs. Kenneth Ford. The club will meet the after noon of February 9 at the home of Mrs. McCallister. The topic will be "Climax of Modernism In Art and Backgraund of American Art." with Mrs. McCallister as leader. RIVERSDALE BENEFIT PARTY IS DELIGHTFUL AFFAIR OF SATURDAY For the benefit of the 4-H scholarship fund the Riversdale Community club gave a highly successful pinochle party Satur day night, at the beautiful subur ban home of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Kruse. There were nine tables of cards In play and jigsaw puzzles were the attraction of the re maining guests. The ladles of the club served pie and coffee the later part of the evening and prizes were given to Helen Neal and Ted Burr who held high-scores, and to Mrs. Everett Wimer and Walt er Marks, who held low scores. CONCERT ASSOCIATION DATES FOUR CONCERTS FOR THE 8EASON The first concert of the Com-! munlty Concert association will be held tonight at 8:15 o'clock at the Junior high school with Miss Dorothy, Maynor, world-famous ; Negro soprano, as guest artist. No tickets will be sold for the concert, as only members will be privileged to attend. The second concert will feature Patricia Travers, violinist, who will present her concert, March j 15; Todd Duncan, Negro baritone, will be presented in concert March 3, and Walter Hautzlg, pi anist, will present his concert on April 19. EPISCOPAL GUILD TO SPONSOR PARISH SUPPER ON MONDAY EVENING St. George's Episcopal guild will sponsor a narlsh sunnoi- at 6:15 o'clock Monday evening at tnc parisn hall. MISS GERRY FETT ENTERTAINS AT CHARMING PARTY Miss Gerry Fett entertained at an eight o'clock dancing party at ner attractive home In West Roseburg Thursday, in compli ment to Ed Moran, who is leav ing soon to enter the U. S. navy. The affair was also to honor his eighteenth birthday anniversaiy. A centerpiece of five Ameri can flags flanked by tall red tapers graced the table on which refreshments were served buffet slvle later In the evening. Red, white, and blue streamers hung from the chandelier above the table down to the four corners. Decorated individual birthday cakes lighted by white candles took the place of the one large traditional cake. The playroom In the basement was also decorated with red, white, and blue to carry out the patriotic motif. Following the refreshments the guests each started a letter to a serviceman and then passed It on till everyone in the group had written on it. Each letter was taken to be mailed by the per son who started it. Many gifts were presented to Ed, all of which will be useful to him in the navy. Members and visiting members are cordial ly Invited. FORMER ROSEBURG GIRL ANNOUNCES ENGAGEMENT SALEM, Jan. 29. Miss Thelma Phyllis Morley is now wearing Daniel E. Zeh's diamond on her left hand. The couple's engage ment was announced at a charm ingly arranged tea on New Year's afternoon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William H. Morley. The benedict-elect is the son of Mrs. Olive Zeh of Salem and Mr. Daniel Zeh of Salem Heights. Mrs. Walter Potteiger greeted the guests at the door and Miss Morley received Informally with her mother and Mrs. Zeh. For her announcement party Miss Morley wore a black crepe afternoon- dress embellished with Chinese brocade and red trim edging the three-quarter length sleeves. Pinned to the shoulder of her dress was an orchid. Mrs. Morley and Mrs. Zeh wore black dresses and gardenia corsages. Miss Tamara Ann Morley, niece of the bride-to-be, passed out bell shaped announcements bearing the names of the couple. Miss Morley received her dia mond on Christmas eve, the 31st wedding anniversary of her par ents. Mrs. ' T. Jackson, aunt of the bride, presided at the serving table and Miss Marcell Stewart and Miss Marjorle Watklns as sisted. Miss Helen Hatfield pass ed the guest book. During the afternoon Mrs. Oswald Morley sang "Indian Love Call" and "I'll Walk With You," accompanied by Miss Mar jorle Watklhs. The serving table was centered with an oval ring of greenery and red berries flanked with red and green tapers in crystal ' holders. The red and green color scheme was carried out in the decorations about the rooms. Miss Morley is a graduate of Salem schools and is connected with the state highway depart ment.
