Mrs. Fred L. Southwick, direc tor of the Loyal Temperance Le gion for Roseburg, reports a spe cial honor awarded to the North Central L. T. L. group, which is under the leadership of Mrs. Edilh S. Ackert. This special award carries the national colors sealed with an honor seal in gold, signed by the national secretary, Miss Wiggans, and the state sec retary, Mrs. R. L. Turrell. The North Central Loyal' Temper ance Legion earned this honor by accumulating 140 points on the 100 per cent basis. NEW CAMP FIRE GROUP IS BEING ORGANIZED - A new Camp Fire group Is be ing organized, which will meet weekly at the First Presbyterian church with Miss Fritzie Hamil ton as the guardian, according to an announcement made by the Camp Fire council president, Mrs. Harrle W. Booth. The Chief Joseph Camp Fire group has announced a meeting for Monday at 4 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Paul Hetweg In Laurelwood and the Pottowato mle group will meet at the home of Mrs. Gordon Stewart aftei; school on Frldav. GREAT ARTISTS TO BE PRESENTED BY COMMUNITY CONCERT ASSN. Three great artists will be pre sented by the Roseburg Concert association during the next few month, according to an announce ment made today by the presi dent, Miss Gladys H. Strong. The first concert will be Sat urday evening, January 29, v at which time the world-famous negro soprano, Dorothy Maynor, will be presented. Only members of the association will bo privileg ed to attend, as no tickets will be sold for the concert. The membership campaign for the association closed this after noon at two o'clock and David Ferguson, New York representa tive of Columbia Concerts, Inc., reports a most successful drive. Officers of the association have expressed their sincere gratitude to the many volunteer workers obtaining the memberships, to make the presentation of concerts in Roseburg possible. This Is Roseburg's first really large undertaking in the musical world in many years and resi dents throughout the surround ing communities Joined with local residents in making the campaign so successful. Mrs. Edwin G. Young is director at Oakland; Mrs. Cliff Parrot, Sutherlin, and Mrs. G. R. Bates, Myrtle Creek. The drive opened Monday eve ning at a dinner at the Hotel Umpqua and was closed today. No further memberships may be taken until the 1945 membership drive opens. GEORGE CROCKER AND LORRAINE WINTERS MARRY IN SEATTLE George Crocker, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Crocker, of Roseburg, aviation metal smith third class at Sandpoint Naval Air station, Seattle, Wash., was married to Miss Lorraine Winters, charming daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Winters, of Adrian, North Dako ta, in an impressive ceremony at the air base in Seattle at 11 o' clock, January 9. Chaplain Smith performed the ceremony. The bride was very attractive in a gold-colored suit with brown accessories. Her corsage was a large orchids Viola Madgen, of Eugene, was maid of honor, and wore a blue suit with black ac cessories and a corsage of talis man roses. Eernard Choquette, of Hastings, Nebr., acted as best man. Following the ceremony the bride and bridegroom went to Mt. Rainer National Park and fol lowing their honeymoon, return ed to Seattle to make their home at 4331, 12th, N. E. street. SUNSHINE CLUB MEETS AT STIEWIG HOME ON THURSDAY The Northside Sunshine club met at the home of Mrs. Clara Stiewig at 230 Wright street Thursday. New officers for 1944 Included Mrs. W. O. Melvin has been In the navy since December 1941. Another son of Mrs. Haines, Private Wilford N. Haines, has recently been transferred from North Africa to Italy. He enter ed the service in March 1943.
