The club members plan and cook foods, which are serv ed to the students and teachers. The' club Is also continuing its project of collecting waste fats. Martha June Buell is the reporter for the group, and Mrs, Vina H. Storey is the leader. Roseburg school students have expressed considerable enthusias urn for the Community Concert association being formed in Rose burg this week and thirty-five volunteer workers have been en gaged in the student group to ob tain student memberships in the association. World-famous artists will he brought to Roseburg in three concerts, the first of which Will be the evening of January 29, When Columbia Concerts, Inc., present Dorothy Maynor, out standing negro soprano. Miss Maynor is singing this week In Los Angeles and will spena next ween m san Tan Cisco, arriving here on the 2Mth to present a concert, before going to Portland for an ' engagement. The association feels especially pleased to have this great artist present a concert in Roseburg. There will be no admission tic kets sold to any concert, as only membership holders will be pri vileged to attend. Adults member ships are $5.50 and student mem berships are $2.20. Leading civic organizations of Roseburg are cooperating In spon soring the association. The asso ciation is open to the entire coun- , ty and any person, who has not Decn comactea iy a volunteer worker, can obtain a membership by calling at the chamber of commerce office, where Mrs. Frances Llntott is acting as chairman. Miss Helen Casey and Mrs. C. A. Brand, general chair man of the membership cam paign and Miss Gladys II. Strong president, have announced that the membership drive has begun most successfully and that the citizens of the county are most cooperative and Interested in bringing the concerts to Hose-burg. David Ferguson, representative ol Columbia Concerts, Inc., New ork, is spending the entire week here assisting in the campaign and he reports that he is assured of success of the drive, as the willingness and tin "pirit of the people of this community, Is as great as he has found in the ter ritory, which ho represents. WOMEN'S. SOCIETY TO ENJOY PROGRAM THURSDAY A very interesting meeting of the Women's Society of the First Presbyterian church has been an nounced for a one-thirty o'clock dessert luncheon to bo held at the church Thursday, according to a report mndo by the program chairman, Mrs. Homer Grow. Dr. Mnrrls H. Roach will con duct the devotions; Mrs. C.. D. Flos will give a talk on"Miss!on ary literature;" Mrs. Margaret Rodgers will present the year book of prayer and Mrs. Grow will give a talk on the work of the social education and action of the division of the church. Discussion of- problems confront ing state and local communities will follow. All members and friends are cordially invited to be present. WOMEN'S COUNCIL TO MEET ON FRIDAY The Women's council of the First Christian church will meet Friday, January 21, at 10;30 a. m. at the home of Mrs. Len B. Fish back at 143 S. Kane street, in stead of at the church parlors as previously announced. Ail mem bers are urged to be present. SEWING GROUP TO MEET THURSDAY The sewing group of George htarmer auxiliary to United Spanish War Veterans will meet at 12:30 o'clock Thursday at the home of Mrs. H. A. Taylor on Mosher street to sew for the vet erans facility hospital. P. E. O. TO HOLD MEETING FRIDAY Chapter B. I. of the P.E.O. Sis terhood will meet Friday, Jan uary 1, at 1:45 o'clock at the homo of Mrs. Paul Helweg on Riverside drive in Laurolwood. Lunch Program for Schools Subject of Conference Here Mrs. Dorothy Rapp, federal foods commodities distribution agency representative from Port land, has been conferring at the office of City School Superin- tendent W. M. Campbell In the interests of the school lunch pro gram for the Roseburg school district. Through the assistance of this agency the high school has been able to supply the dishes which are offered the students at a lower cost than would other wise be possible. Miss May Mur phy is the general supervisor of the high school cafeteria in Rose burg. Plans are also being made with the school district through this agency to again operate a school milk program during the second semester In the elementary schools. This program is to be sponsored and assisted by the Roseburg Klwants cjuo. Last year the club sponsored a similar pro gram in the three public elemen tary schools, the St. Joseph's school, and the Adventist school in Roseburg, supplying a total of 50,000 one-half pint bottles of milk to the students during the second semester.
