Make Trip to Eugene Fred A. Knight and his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick J. Porter, made a business trip to Eugene Friday and while there visited Mr. Knight's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. llouser and family. Arrives From Portland Mrs. Elma Goodman, who is employed in the shipyards at Portland, has Arrived here to visit her father, E. J. Payton, over the weekend. She will be joined here tomorrow by her daughter, Miss Evelyn of Portland, who will accompany her back lo their home Sunday. Leaves for Seattle Lt. Allen Cordon, of the U. S. army air forces, has left for Seattle to re port for duty, following a visit here with his pajfents, Attorney and Mrs. Guy Cordon, and sisters, Miss Carolyn and Miss Margaret Cordon. He stopped over en route to his new base from Or lando, Fla., and was accompanied here by his wife, nee Helen White, and their young son, Da vid, who will remain here for the present time visiting relatives anS friends. She was accompanied by her grand son, Ronald Baird, of Richmond, Calif., who has been spending his school vacation at Sutherlin. Will Move Back to Roseburg Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Burr and son, manager of the local Western Auto Supply store. Leaving for Oaklahoma Mrs. F. I. Belts and daughter, Miss Vada Mae, of this city, plan to leave Sunday evening for Enid, Oklahoma, where Miss Vada Mae, will attend Phillips university. Krantz, residents of Garden valley for many years, have sold their property there to Walter Morris of Marshfield and have left for Lakeview, Ore., to visit their daughter. Will Visit In Washington Miss Jeanne Dillard, who has been spending the summer months em ployed in the News-Review of fice, is leaving today for Aber deen, Wash., to spend a couple of weeks visiting her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Bates, and their small son, Barclay. Miss Dillard, who is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Dillard, of this city, will return here in time for the fall opening of Roseburg high school, where she will enroll as a senior. Here Buying Wool Mr. and Mrs. K. H. Pickens, former resi dents of Roseburg, are here from Saiem visiting and attending to business matters. Mr. Pickens, who has been employed for a number of years with the Kay Woolen Mills, is contacting local sheepmen in an effort to buy the fall clip of wool. I Auto Mechanics Training Class to Be Conducted Here An educational program for the training of automotive me chanies in this area will start at Roseburg Aug. 31, j. G. Giese, maintenance specialist of the Of flee of Defense Transportation for the Mcdford district, report ed today. The training classes wiii be conducted by certified instrue tors through the cooperation of the local automotive trade groups and the state board of vocational education, he said. Due to the great number of men taken into the armed forces and men engaged in war produc tion work, a critical shortage of mechanics and maintenance per sonnel has developed, Glese said. In order to alleviate this short age, mechanics training pro grams have been established In a number of localities. The training is free and aii ma terials are furnished by the gov ernment. Anyene with a mechan ical flair or background is in vited to iake advantage of the opportunity for expert training. Applications viil be received by the .
