A group of neighbors gathered at the George Langdon home last week to give Mr. and Mrs. George Langdon a rousing charivari. Mr. and Mrs. Langdon were married July 1( at Roseburg. The bride was Miss Hazel McCoskey, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. G. McCoskey ot Oakland and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lang don of Elkhead. Mrs. Matt All drop and Mrs. Percy Langdon were the only witnesses at the ceremony The bride is a gradu ate of Oakland high school with the class of 1943. The groom has spent all his life in the Elkhead district. The couple will be at home to their many friends at their ranch at Elkhead. FACULTY APPOINTED AT BOARD MEETING SATURDAY YONCALLA, Aug. 3 A special meeting of the Yoncalla high school board was held Saturday evening. Mrs. L. L. Ehrilich who lives in Hayhurst valley was giv en a contract to teach Home Eco nomics and Mary Brackett of Ku fus is to teach English and his tory. With only one teacher yet to hire, the Yoncalla school looks as if they will have a complete corp of teachers to take care of every need. Several other appli cations are in for the other teach er, so there is no doubt that an other teacher will be hired with in a few weeks. PICNIC ENJOYED AT HUFHAM HOME THURSDAY A picnic was held Thursday evening at the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hufham on the north Pacific highway. Follow ing the dinner, visiting was en joyed. KANSAS CLUB PICNIC TO BE HELD SUNDAY The annual picnic of the Kan sas club will bo held at noon Sunday, August 8, at the Rose burg Auto park. A special fea ture of the day will be the nam ing of counties in Kansas. Those attending are asked to bring their own basket lunch and their sugar. Coffee will be furnished by the committee in charge. All former Kansas residents and friends are invited. MR. AND MRS. DOUBLEDAY ENTERTAIN WEDNESDAY DHAIN, Aug. 3 Mi-, and Mrs. O. M. Doubleday entiertained at a 7' o'clock dinner Wednesday evening at their ranch four miles west of town. Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Reding ton, Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Young and the hosts. All were formerly from Payette, Idaho, and a pleas ant evening was spent visiting. DELIGHTFUL PARTY HELD AT RUSSELL HOME WILBUR, Aug. 4. Miss Louise Russell entertained at a delight ful party at her home in Win chester Friday evening. Those present included Mr. and Mrs. Len Fishback, Rose Mary and Vernon Fishback, Hildegarde Roselund, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rus sell and hostess, Louise Russell. GARDEN VALLEY WOMEN'S CLUB TO MEET THURSDAY The Garden Valley Woman's club will meet Thursday at two o'clock at the clubhouse with Mrs. H. M. Knapp as hostess. Taylo. , Attend Conference Mrs. Lu la Gorrell, Douglas county school superintendent, accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Kimmell, of this city, president of the Douglas County O. S. T. A., and Miss Ma bel Williams, Myrtle Creek teach er, returned here last night, fol lowing a trip to Coquille to at tend an educational conference. Speakers from Salem and Mon mouth, in addition to Coquille, took part on the program. Mrs. Gorrell was accompanied to the coast by- her daughter, Miss Hel en Gorrell of Eugene, and Mrs. Terrence Fitzgerald, of Roseburg, who went on to the beach to spend two days. Miss Gorrell left last night for Eugene, where she is employed in the Welfare Com mission office. Son Is Born According to word received here, a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Miller (Marie Hehard) at the Mc Farland Maternity home in Eu gene, July 27. The baby has been named Ronald Stewart and at birth weighed seven pounds eight ounces. After being dis charged . from the maternity home, Mrs. Miller and baby will visit in Eugene with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Hebard, before returning to her home In Ash land. Marsters, who will spend several days there with her son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Pearcy. Arrive for Visit Corporal and Mrs. Raymond E. Miller have arrived to enjoy a visit at the E. A. Miller home at Winchester and with relatives and friends here. Corporal Miller is having a 15 day furlough from Scott field, St. Louis, Mo., where he Is an X-ray technician instructor. He is a native of Douglas coun ty and has been In the service for the last 18 months. Returning to Roseburg R. R. Brand and son, Donald spent Tuesday in this city making prep arations to return here from Me- Minnvllle, where the family has spent the summer and Mr. Brand has acted as lay pastor of the Episcopal church. Mr. and Mrs. Brand and daughter Barbara, and son, Donald, expect to return to their home in West Mloreland Sunday. Mr. Brand is the prin cipal of the junior high school here. To Join Sister Vivian Do mcnico, twin daughter of Mr. nnrl Mrs. P. Dompnlco of this city, has left for Oakland, Calif., where she will visit her aunt and later secure a job. Her sister, Vera Domenico Hubbard, former ly employed at Bend, Ore., has left for Walla Walla, Wash. Tor a hi-inf vidt with her nnrenlsln- law and will continue on to Oak land to join her sister and aunt. Sgt. Hubbard is stationed some where in the Pacific area. He was born In Brooklyn, N. Y., Feb. 28, 1887, and had resided at Winston for the last six years. Surviving be sides his widow are three chil dren, who reside in Delaware.
