May Saar, president, conducted the meeting and appointed the fol lowing committees: sick com mittee, Belle Huff and Olive Walker; flowers, Emma Van Voorst; parliamentarian, Marga ret Clark; finance, Emma Beck ley and Alma Lovelace; press, Mary Lee Summers; program, Cora Rogan, Irene Walker and Cora Collison. Ford Singleton entertained the Lady Lions Monday evening at the for mer's attractive home on East Cass street. Eastling, chairman, assisted by the officers of she Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church, entertained the organization at n very charming luncheon Thurs day at the church parlors. The June motif was beautifully car ried out on the tables by the use of pink roses and pink napkins, while flags were used to carry out the patriotic Idea. Mrs. A. J. Geddes, president, conducted the business nieetir.g with Mrs. J. E. Dent in charge of devotions; Mrs. J. P. Ncedham giving a five-minute talk on "Spiritual Life" and Mrs. A. J. Ellison presenting an interesting program on China. The group voted to continue meetings during the summer. The meetings will be held at two o' clock in the afternoon the second Thursday of every month, instead of at luncheons. LOCAL ARTISTS LISTED IN ALL-OREGON EXHIBITION OF PORTLAND ART MUSEUM Two Roseburg artists, Mrs. T. G. Wutson, and Miss Margaret Carr, instructor of art in the lo cal schools, are listed In the re cently published second All-Ore gon Exhibition edition of the Portland art museum. The second All-Oregon exhibi tion includes paintings and sculp ture by Oregon artists shown at the Portland art museum at West Park and Madison streets in Portland from June 6th through July 2nd. Two years ago the ait museum In Portland snsored its first All-Oregon exhibition as an ex periment to test the response of both the artists and the buying public of the state. The results ex ceeded all expectations and thl? year's exhibit has already had a large attendance of visitors and ias produced thirty-two sales to lute. REBEK AH LODGE HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING Roseburg Rebekah lodge hold a well attended mooting Tuesday evening wilh 55 members present and 4 visitors. Preceding the lodge meeting the officers honor ed Mi-s. Ethel Bailey with a de lightful no-host dinner. Initiation was held and Mrs. Mabel Kane and Glen Wilson j were received and welcomed as new members. The lodge donated the sum of $10.50 to the U. S.'O. and it was decided to hold joint installation with the Plulaterian lodec on July 14th. Valley community had an enjoyable day at the Women's club building. A picnic dinner had been planned, but because of showers, the tables were placed In the clubroom, which was beautifully decorated with gorgeous bouquets of lovely flowers. At one o'clock the dinner was served, following which a brief program was given Including: flag salute by the group led by Gordon Hughes and Kenneth Ewens, followed by singing "The Star Spangled Banner"; Fred Zeuhlke gave a most enjoyable violin number and Colleen Moore sang two songs, "I'm An Ameri can" and "His Buttons Are Mark ed U. S." Attorney J. V. Long then gave a talk expressing for the com munity appreciation for the splen did spirit of Narclsse LaRaut, who in 1880 gave to school dis trict No. 43 an acre of land for the Garden Valley school. A clause in the deed stipulated that in case at any time the land should not be used for school pur poses, It should revert to the heirs. Recently, when a new school building was erected in Garden Valley on another site, the heirs of Narcisse LaRaut, with the same spirit of their father before them, gave to the Garden Valley Women's club this school acre, which joins the club's own property that they may use it as a center for community better ment, thus, in a way, carrying on the wishes of their father. Wilcox, of Oakland, Ore., was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Elizabeth Tiffany, of Redwood Falls, Minnesota, June 3rd, in a ceremony perform- ed at the' home of the bride's par- J cnts at two.thtrty o'clock in the afternoon in an outdoor setting. The bride was given in mar riage by her father. The cere mony was read by Dr. Walter Barlow, pastor of the Collegiate Presbyterian church of Amos, Iowa, who was assisted hy Dr. James P. Linn, of Buona Vista college, Storm Lake, Iowa, and the Rev. William A. Dalton, pas stor of the First Presbyterian church of Redwood Falls. The double ring ceremony was used. Lohengrin's wedding march was played by the bride's sister-in-law, Mrs. Donald P. Tiffany. Mrs. Stewart M. Johnson, of Ithaca, New York, and Aaron Nelson, of Brookings, South Dakota, were the only attendants. The bride wore her mother's wedding gown of white Persian lawn and a finger-tip veil held in plaee by a coronet of seed pearls. Her flowers were cream-colored roses and swansonia. Her matron of honor was gowned In a full length redingote of yellow mous scline de soie and carried an arm bouquet of purple violets. The hride was graduated from me scnooi oi nomc economics at I Iowa State college and she holds a master of science degree in household economics from the University of Vermont and has . studied toward her Ph. D. degree consumption economics at Iowa State college. She has noon employed a research associate in consumption economics both at Vermont and Iowa agricultural experiment stations. The bridegroom Is well known ing the dinner a poem written by Edythe F. Kelley was read and each lady presented Mrs. Bailey with a handkerchief. The affair was kept a secret among the officers and came as a complete surprise to Mrs. Bailey. The ladies present were: Ethel Bailey, Virginia Cyrus, Velma In his memory. Following Attor ney Long's very interesting talk the group sang "God Blass Amen lea,'.' and disbanded to enjoy an hour of visiting. He has also studied toward his Ph. D. degree at Iowa State and the University of Minnesota. He is affiliated with several scholastic fraternities including Phi Kappa Phi, national scholarship honorary'- Ho Is a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, social fraternity. Following their honeymoon. Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox went to Ames, Iowa, on June 8th, to make their home and where both will continue their positions with the college. The clubroom was decorated with beautiful bou quets of peonies from the Winni ford gardens.
