LUCY OWEN CELEBRATES S0TH BIRTHDAY FRIDAY Mrs. Lucy Owen, who has been convalescing from a recent Ill ness, celebrated her 90th birth day anniversary queltly yesterday afternoon at the Brust home on Fowler and Court streets. She wore. Marry at Church Wedding Jan. 18th " " - ' Mr. and Mrs. "The Assembly of God church" was the scene of a very pretty wedding Sunday afternoon, Janu ary 18th, .when Miss Edna L. Bailey, youngest daughter of Mrs! M. E. Bailey, and John G. Elliott, only son of Mrs. W. J. West, were united in marriage before a large group of relatives and friends. The church was beautifully deco rated and Rev. A. H. Rostcvedt, pastor of the church, officiated. The bride was lovely in a street-length frock of medium blue silk crepe. She carried an open white Bible with white satin streamers with tiny blue and pink satin bows alternating on the streamers. Her corsage was of pink carnations and fern. Mrs. Winston Casper, ncc Drennon Shortrldge of Roseburg and now of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was matron of honor, and was charming in a navy blue frock, with a deep-pink corsage of car nations and fern. The beautifully decorated wedding cake was cut by the bride. ' Both Mr.-and Mrs. Elllottt are well known in Douglas county, having resided in and near Rosc burg for a number of years. They will make their, home on South Kane street in Miller's addition, where their new home is ncaring completion. Mr. Llliottt is em ployed at the veterans adminis tration facility here. Shoemaker, cele brated his eighteenth birthday anniversary at a very enjoyable six-thirty o'clock dinner at his home on East Lane street Thurs day evening. A lighted birthday cake centered the table. FORMER ROSEBURG GIRL MARRIES IN EUGENE JAN. 28TH Miss Mary Margaret Gedney, formerly of Roseburg and for the past several years a resident of Eugene, was married at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Gedney, in Eugene, January 28th, to Dr. Marshall Kennedy, of Coqullle. Dr. Victor P. Morris, of the University of Oregon .fac ulty, performed the ceremony in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends, many of whom were out-of-town guests. The Gedney home was deco rated throughout in a pink and white motif tor the wedding. Preceding the ceremony, Fred Beardsley sang two numbers. Miss Anne Barton and Donald Estes, both of Coquille, were at tendants. Following the cere mony, a reception was held. Mrs. NIs Abrahamson, aunt of the bride from Washington, poured and another aunt, Mrs. Clyde Morgan, served the .bride's cake. Assisting In serving were: Mrs. J. R. GRANGE 3PONSOR3 SHOWER SATURDAY South Deer Creek grange and members of the community gave a lovely miscellaneous shower Saturday night at the grange hall in honor of Miss Lois Duncan and Maynard McCormlck, who will be married soon. The gifts were presented to them by little Lorene Kester dressed as a bride, carrying an arm bouquet of roses. Following the opening of the many fine gifts the grange or chestra played several numbers. Lovely refreshments were served by the H. E."club of the grange. As guests of honor, Miss Lois Duncan, Maynard McCormick, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Duncan and Mr. and Mrs. E. McCormick were seated at a separate table cen tered with flowers. Edwards on South Kane street with Mrs. Annie L. Russell, president, in charge and Mrs. L. F. Wilson and Mrs. L. Kohlhagcn, Sr., as hostesses. Plans were made for the .an nual spring tea to be held the latter part of April. Tne com mittees are already hard at work 'on this affair and hope to make the 1942 tea even more successful than the affair of last year. Attorney H. A. Canady was guest speaker and presented a very fine talk on the evil and in fluence that social drinking is creating in this country. Mrs. Edwards conducted the inspira tion devotional service. At the tea hour lovely refresh ments were served. The tea table was prettily appdintedfor the occasion. Reports were made out for the year by: Mrs. Campbell, presi dent; Mrs. J. Roland Parker, sec retary; Mrs. Morris H. Roach, program chairman, who was ac companied to the meeting by her small daughter, Betty; Mrs. Earl Ullrich, treasurer; Mrs. Fred Fisher, 'secretary of spiritual life; Miss Margaret Ciapp, secre tary of stewardship; Mrs. C. D. Fies. secretary cf literature; Mrs. W. G. Blake, chairman of na tional and overseas sewing; Mrs. C. E. Roberts, membership chair man, and Mrs. Homer Grow, sec retary of missionary education.
