Fresh Hoc Air Alams Sound in New York City NEW YORK, Dec. 10. AP) Air raid warnings were sounded in New York at 8:41 a. m. today after similar warnings had flash ed over Long Island. The all clear was heard at 9:01. Police headquarters reported that "enemy bombing was Im minent" but first air force head quarters at Mitchel field disclaim ed any knowledge ot Hoc; lie air craft being in the vicinity. A spokesman at Mitchel field said: "We gave no orders for an air raid alarm. We are not respon sible if local drills 'are being held." , The metroxlitan area experi enced its first two alarms of the war amid considerable excite ment yesterday as a result of what the war department de scribed as a "phony tip" that enemy bombers were approach ing. Railway Express- Union Wage Dispute Settled CHICAGO, Dec. 10 (AP) The wage dispute of 42,000 Railway Express' company employes was tives of management and labor signed an agreement accepting a 10 cents an hour pay increase. Wayne Lyman Morse, chairman of President Roosevelt's emer gency fact-finding commission, announced the signing of agree ment less than six hours after no Informed the company, upon au thorization from the White House, that It must accept the recom mendations of the commission for the wage hike. Earlier, the union announced a strike threat might be called to enforce the wage demands. teo Devaney Appointed Wing Commander PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 10 (Special) Leo G. Devaney, state director of aeronautics, was in formed Tuesday in a telegram from Fiorcllo LaGuardla, civilian defense director, of his appoint ment as wing commander of the civil air patrol for Oregon. Deva ney planned to leave Tuesday for conterence in Washington, D. C, on how the air patrol will be set up. Devaney was Informed' that Major General John F. Curry, formerly chief of the second' air force, will head the patrol na tionally. Generally, the civil air patrol has been discussed as an organization of civilian filers which could carry on vital com munications and non-military sup ply functions during emergencies.
