HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING MONDAY EVENING The regular meeting of the Business und Professional Wom en's dub was htld. ai the club house Monday evening Oct. 2rh, with lna Farnsworth, Katherlne Kenny, Hazel Dixon and Ema Mann serving as hostesses. The business meeting was in charge of Stella Spencer, presi dent. Tickets were passed out and further arrangecnts were made for the sponsoring of Sam Gordon, "The Kibltier," who will give a series of contract bridge lessons early J:i November. The program for the evening consisted of several vocal num bers by Julia and Caroline Per kins accompanied by Mrs. Helen .Saar. Reverend Perry Smith talked on the topic: "Strengthen Democracy in Our Town." Helen Saar gave a musical number en titled "Musical Romance." At the close of the program Mrs. Jack Saunders was delightfully surprised by a shower of gifts. The committee served refresh ments to the following members and guests:. PUBLIC INVITED TO BENEFIT PLAY AND TEA NEXT TUESDAY The Raseburg Woman's club has issued a most cordial Invita tion to the public to enjoy its an nual fall benefit play and tea at two oclock next Tuesday after noon at the clubhouse. Miss Helen Casey will present the one-act comedy, "The Din ner," and will be assisted by Mrs. Adrian Bowen and Mrs. Fred erick J. Porter. Mrs. Morris H. Roach will piny violin numbers I and Mrs. Homer Grow will play piano numbers during the tea hour. Mrs. Frank Brown is hos tess chairman. Mrs. Harry F. Hatfield, president, will give the address of welcome and Mrs. W. M. Campbell will announce the play. Mrs. Edward G. Kohlhagen is stage manager and Mrs. L. L. Wimberly has charge of decora tions for the play. PUBLIC INVITED TO BENEFIT CARD PARTY WEDNESDAY, NOV. 5 The University of Oregon Mothers club will sponsor a scholarship loan benefit card party at 8 o'clock next Wednes day evening, November 5th, at the newly redecorated rooms at ) the Elks temple. The public has been cordially invited to attend and may make reservations by calling Mrs. Fred Hamilton at 295-J or Mrs.' Guy Cordon at 528-J. Prizes will be awarded the winners in the various card plays and refreshments will be served. ! Many old friendships were re newed at the 6:30 potluck dinner. Sixty-five members answered to roll call during the evening ses sion and cards and letters were read from absent members. A large collection of canned goods, dried fruits and apples were re ceived and are being readied for shipment to the I. O. O. F. home. Jack Dent, Frank Beals, Virginia Cyrus, Emma Lou Dishman and Fred Goff volunteered to serve as a flower committee to remem ber the shut-ins and older mem bers unable to attend. Lvdia Roadman. Gertrude Hat field and Ruth Dishman were appointed to meet with a com mittee from Philetarian lodge, No. 8, to consider the possibilities of radio talks on the lodge news. Nominations for the coming term were Virginia Cyrus, N. G.; Velma Herman and Lena Porter, V. G.; Tillie I. Johnson, Rec Sec; Emma Taylor, financial Sec, and Mabel Wilson, treas urer. Rosebure No. 41 will be well represented at the district con vention to be held at Mvrtle Creek Nov. 7th. Plans were made toenter the banner bearer's con test and the Roseburg lodge will have charpe of the yearly me morial service. CLAUDF BAKER Next Tuesday night at eight o'clock at the armory the Ameri can Leijlon Auxiliary will hold its regular bi-monthly meeting with Mrs. Irvin Rieecl, president, presiding. On Monday nleht pre ceding the senior meeting, the iunior group will meet at 7:00 at the home of the advisor. Mrs. James Young to install officers. Gertrude Pierce will be installed as president: Audrey Roselund, vice-president; Ruth Ann Ruhl, treasurer, and historian Jerry Merchant. Refreshments will be served by President Bess Ricgel. Waiting until school was started and the girls settled, they should start the year with their usual energy. Listen at 5:00 o'clock for the radio program of the auxiliary with Sue Parkinson at the micro phone. This correspondent must teach the motor corps first aid class that night at 7:30 but will manage to get part of the aux iliary meeting at 8:00. Mrs. Roy Young and Mrs. Tom Parkinson went to Drain Tuesday night for their first aid class which they will conduct there. Did you see the navy day windows? The auxiliary wishes to thank those who have con tributed to an interesting dis play. Many persons have viewed it while it hast Been up. we wisn to thank the staff of the "Wheel of Fortune" for requesting the pictures and each of you who have sent them in. Would you mind going all the way and calling for them. They will be at the chamber of commerce office. We were highly flattered when a re quest came for a picture of the windows to be sent to Washing ton, D. C, to be made a part of the permanent navy day govern ernment record.
