On Friday evening, July 18, at the Light House temple In. Eu gene, Miss Clara Alice Jensen and I.ynn E. Hodges, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Hodges of I,ook ingglass, were married at an Im pressive Ci'-STrwny pTfoi meJ by Rev. E. J. Fulton, pastor of the temple, before a large white cross placed behind the altar, flanked by lighted candles and centered In a beautiful arrange j , ment of gladioli and ferns. Pre ceding the ceremony selections were played by a violin quar- Otette and two vocal solos, "Be cause" and "I Love You Truly," were given. The bride, who was given In marriage by her brother, George Jensen, of Eugene, was lovely In a floor length gown of white silk chiffon with full length veil with train and carried a white Bible with white satin ribbon streamers. Miss Margaret Connant, maid of honor, wore a peach colored floor length gown and carried a bouquet of sweetpeas. Miss Iona Hodges, sister of the groom, anil Miss Linda Stoneberg were bridesmaids and wore floor length gowns of pastel blue and sea green with arm bouquets of sweetpeas. - Jeff Hodges, cousin of the groom, acted as best man. Bobby Adams was ring bearer and Oren Reed and Dorman Snyder were ushers. The young couple will make their home in Eugene where they Oare both employed. The bride was graduated from the Bible Standard Training school in the class of 1941. Mr. Hodges will complete his Bible school course In another year, after which Mr. and Mrs. Hodges will engage in full time gospel work. A large group of friends and relatives witnessed the cere mony, fn attendance from Look ingglass were the groom's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Hodges ami daughter, Miss Iona, and sons, Terranee and Glenn. Fol lowing the ccremonv the young couple accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Hodges and family to Looking glass where they visited over the week end. On Saturday evening the young folks of the valley ten dered them a charivari and on Sundav morning following the regular Sunday school service, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Hodges took O charge of the church service, Mrs; Hodges leading the singing and Mr. Hodges bringing the message. They also sang a duet preceding the message. On Sun dav evening Mr. and Mrs. Hodges took charge of the serv ices in the Bible Standard church in Roseburg. Mrs. Hodges led the young people's group and di rected the singing for the wor ship service and Mr. Hodges brought the message. ICE CREAM SOCIAL TO BE HELD FRIDAY SUTHERLIN, July 31. The annual ice cream festival spon sored by the Sutherlin Parent Teachers club will take place Friday evening, August 1, at S o'clock in the school gymna sium. CAMP FIRE GIRLS , CAMP TO OPEN SUNDAY The 1941 camp of the Camp Fire Girls will open at the Wolf Creek Boy Scout camp Sunday, August 3, with Mrs. Sidney Dom enlco as director and Mrs. T. G. Watson, president of the Camp Fire council, as counsellor. Alan Knudtson, who recently j passc-u filial" examinations in I Washington for water safety and is now a qualified Red Cross swimming instructor, has been secured to have charge of all wa ter sports and instructing begin ners and advanced swimming stu dents during the camp. Parents are being assured that the best swimming instruction can now be obtained by the Camp Fire Girls during the 1941 camp. Mrs. Domenico will be assist ed by Miss Jean Strawn and Miss Doris Shoemaker, who have ar ranged an unusually Interesting program for the week, which will include working on numer ous Camp Fire ranks and crafts, hikes and various types of train ing necessary for Camp Fire Girls. Mrs. A. B. Taylor will .cook for the girls. The first meal to be served at the camp will be Sunday eve ning. All persons visiting the camp during the week are asked to bring their own picnic food, as the camp-does not have facili ties for the extra guests. Camp Fire Girls desiring to at tend camp are requested to reg ister not later than Friday at the Roseburg chamber of com merce office. Those attending are asked to bring their own I flashlight and each girl has been asked to donate a jar of telly to the camp kitchen. Straw ticks are furnished at the camp, so that sleeping bags will not be necessary. The Camp Fire council met Tuesday night at the chamber of commerce office to complete ar rangements for the camp, which promises to be one of the most delightful and enjoyable ever held. ROBERT HOLMQUIST HONORED ON BIRTHDAY MELROSE, July 31. Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Holmquist and daugh ter, Patty, invited a group of young people to their home Tues day evening to surprise and hon or their son and brother, Robert Holmquist, on his sixteenth hirthdav anniversary. The living room was decorated with bouquets of mixed gladioli. The enjoyable party was held on the lawn where colorful lights were used and tables and benches had been placed. Games were played and visiting enjoved until later in the evening when gifts were presented to Bobbie, among which was a wrist watch, a gift from his father, mother and sister. A large and beautifully decor ated cake was presented him from the family. Mrs. Holmquist was assisted in serving ice cream and cake by Mrs. C. E. Johnson and Mrs. Gunner Johnson, to Robert Holm quist, guest of honor, and to liuby and Ruth Matthews, Char lene Stark, Helen Johnson, Roy Becker, Wayne Nelson, Ray Doerner, Walter Durch, Calvin Conn, Bob Myers, Harry Durch, Ted Tjomslund, Henry Krohn, Jr., Victor Backlund, Doris Durch, Retta Johnson, Leona Kelley from Glengary and Patty Holmquist. MISS REXROAD WEDS KLAMATH FALLS RESIDENT MEDFORD, July 31. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Rexroad have an- nounced the marriage of their daughter, Dorothea Bernlce, to Leo F. Purlnton, of Klamatn Falls, at Reno, Nov., June 30. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Wesley Runon of the First Christian church at 8:45 a. m. The bride wore a royal blue suit with blue accessories and a corsage of red rosebuds. Mrs. Purinton is well known In Med ford, where she attended busi ness college. The family form erlv resided at Roseburg. Mr. and Mrs. Purinton are making their home in Oakland, Calif., where Mr. Pdrinton is at tending aeronautics classes at the Oakland Municipal airport. DINNER IS ENJOYED AT CAYLOR HOME AZALEA, July 31. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Caylor entertained with a lovely dinner Sunday hon oring the wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Farnam. At a lovely appointed table covers were placed for Mr. and Mrs. Farnam, guests of honor, Mrs. Chester Johns and daugh ters, Elsie Mae and Beverly June of Salem, and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Caylor and daughter, Sharon. Musicians Picnic to Be Held at BoSwell Sunday Musicians and friends will converge on uosweii springs Sunday afternoon for the annual musicians picnic, which this year will attract musical groups from Douglas, Coos and Lane counties, according to Horace Berg, chair man. Mr. Berg emphasized that the picnic was not of a commercial nature, but simply an opportunity for musicians and their friends to get together for a day. The Roseburg city band will be on hand, as will a band from Reedsport, and an orchestra from Cottage Grove. Other mu sical groups from Eugene and Marshfield will attend. Concerts will be given all day, with an old-time fiddling contest as a feature. A public address system will be Installed, Mr. Berg states, and the grounds at Boswell Springs are in fine shape for the event. LOCAL NEWS Obtain Marriage License A marriage license was issued at Tillamook, Wednesday, July 30, to R. L. Bulk, 72, Seaside, and M. E. McCord, 50, Roseburg. Move to Portland Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Laurance and j baby have moved this week rom Roseburg to Portland, where Mr. Laurance will work for the Southern Pacific company. Mrs. Laurance was formerly Lillian Thompson of Roseburg. Simmons and daughter, Betty Gene, have returned to their home In Salem, following a vacation In Roseburg. Mr. and Mrs. Simmons were house guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lockwood on East Douglas street and Betty Gene visited at the J. C. Hume home on Blakeley street. They formerly made their home here. The building houses the board of temperance and is the headquarters of Meth odists and was built by Dr. Clar ence T. Wilson. Back From Vacation Mr. and Mrs. Ira Pierce and daughter, Gertrude, and son, Lester, have returned to their home in West Roseburg, following a week's va cation. They visited Mrs. Pierce's uncle, W. W. Vanwey and fam ily and her aunt, Mrs. Sara Ogle, in Aumsville and then went to Olympia to visit her brother. Floyd Hagerty and family. They also visited Mr. Pierce's nephew. Cecil Pierce, at Camp Murray. During their absence their daugh ter, Miss Iris, employee at the local radio station, remained In Roseburg.
