Course in Forest Guarding Given 65 , Approximately sixty-five -lire season employes of the Umpqua national forest last night com pleted a 10-day forest Ruard train ing school at Wolf creek camp on Little river. The school was par ticularly Important this year, ac cording to Ray B. Hampton of the Roscburg headquarters office, be cause of the fact that more than 50 per cent of the men who have been employed In past years and who thus were familiar with for est practices are now in military service or dnfenso . industries. This situation has made It nec essary to provide an extensive training course for the many un trained men who will he em ployed this year. The school was conducted by stall officers from Roscburg, dis trict rangers, district protective assistants, LXX; foremen and su perintendents and others. Among Ihose who served as In structors were Rex Wilson, dis trict ranger In charge of the Bo hemia district; Fred Asam, North Umpqua district ranger; Avery Berry, South Umpqua district ranger, and Leroy Garwood, Dia mcMid lake district ranger. The four district protective as sistants, Bruce Ferguson, South Umpqua; Charles Vusey, Bohe mia; Jack brnlth. Diamond lake, and Junior Mallory, North Ump qua, together with John McGll vniy, South Umpqua CCC super Inlnndrlit; Ermll Chaney, South Umpqua district guard, and CCC foremen, drover Blake, Art Radl gun and Carl Messing, also assist ed with the Instruction.
