Guarding Given 65
, Approximately sixty-five -lire

pleted a 10-day forest Ruard train
ing school at Wolf creek camp on
Little river. The school was par
ticularly Important this year, ac
cording to Ray B. Hampton of the
Roscburg headquarters office, be
cause of the fact that more than
50 per cent of the men who have
been employed In past years and
who thus were familiar with for
est practices are now in military
service or dnfenso . industries.
This situation has made It nec
essary to provide an extensive
training course for the many un
trained men who will he em
ployed this year.
The school was conducted by
stall officers from Roscburg, dis
trict rangers, district protective
assistants, LXX; foremen and su
perintendents and others.
Among Ihose who served as In
structors were Rex Wilson, dis
trict ranger In charge of the Bo
hemia district; Fred Asam, North
Umpqua district ranger; Avery
Berry, South Umpqua district
ranger, and Leroy Garwood, Dia
mcMid lake district ranger.
The four district protective as

Roy L. "Doc" Haslett, "The,

duct . another of. his popular
schools of Instruction In casting
and . scientific angling. Accom

A public school In the art pf
handling fly and bait rods and

lett on the courthouse lawn in
Roseburg from 4 to 7 p. m. Tues
day, June 24.
,,This event is free to all sports
men. A complete showing of the
finest in fishing tackle, sports
wear and equipmont will be on
display, hut emphasis Is placed
on the fact that nothing display
ed is offered for sale and no or
ders for equipment are taken, as
tho school is purely informative.
"Doc'' Haslett and his lovely
wife, Esther, arc employed by a
group of tackle and sportswear
comanloB as good will represen
tatives. Their, purpose is not to
sell merchandise, Haslett points
out, but to interest more people
in the fine points of angling and
to aid sportsmen in perfecting
their skill with fly and bait equip
mnnt. "Which, after all," Haslett
admits," eventually results in
sales for tho companies we rep
resent." ... . ;
