Church, a guest, and Mrs. Chester Morgan, Mrs. D. B. Bu bar, Mrs. Guy Cordon, Mrs. Clair K. Allen, Mrs. J. R. Wharton, Mrs. Kenneth Quine, Mrs. Ralph Quine and the hostess, Mrs. Wade. High score for the evening's contract bridge play was won by Mrs. Bubar with Mrs. Church re ceiving the guest prize and Mrs. Wharton the traveling prize. MRS. C. E. PATTERSON ENTERTAINS BRIDGE CLUB ON THURSDAY Mrs. E. C. Patterson graciously entertained her bridge club Thursday afternoon at a lovely J :30 o'clock dessert - luncheon. Roses graced the serving table and were used in gorgeous bou quets about the rooms. Covers were placed for Mrs. T,rant Osborn, a guest, and Mrs. II. II. Turner, Mrs. Leroy Watt, Mrs. P. M. I.ee, Mrs. A. B. Tay lor, Mrs. G. M. Krell, Mrs. T. R. Burr and the hostess, Mrs. Pat terson. High score for the con tract bridge play was won by Mrs. Burr. The club planned a picnic for members and their husbands to be held in June. Mrs. H. H. Turner and Mrs. A. B. Taylor are joint chairmen of arrangements. Mrs. Carl E. Wimberly acted as hostess for the charming surprise party and was assisted by Mrs. Richards, house mother of Kappa Alpha Theta, who cut ices. Miss Jeanne Horton, Miss Mary Bleeg, both of Portland, and Miss Sally McLellan and Miss Frances Ann Mott, of Salem, served. The hrlrteelect is a charming member of the younger set of this city and at Corvallis, where she has won outstanding honors dur ing her four years at Oregon State College. She will be gradu ated from the college this year. Mr. Healy attended Grant high school, Portland University and Oregon State college and is now engaged as an engineer for the Curtis Wright Airplane corpora tion at Patterson, New Jersay. He makes his home at Mount Clair. "The engagement was written on parchment scrolls tied with rib bons the color of the Kappa Al pha Theta sorority and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and the flowers used, pansics and violets, were the flowers of the sorority and fraternity of the couple. The marriage has been planned for this summer. D. A. R. TO MEET MONDAY AFTERNOON Members of the D. A. R. and their invited guests will enjoy one of the most outstanding meet ings of the year Monday, May 19, at two o'clock at the Roseburg Woman's clubhouse, when Mrs. T. Leland Brown, of The Dalles, will be guest speaker. Mrs. George M. Brown Is pro gram chairman and will introduce her daughter-in-law, who will talk on "Early American Glass" and will exhibit her glassware. Mrs. Brown has asked persons owning early American glass in this city to bring the articles to the meet ing and the guest speaker will talk on the history of the articles brought in. Mrs. T. Lciana Brown is renorted to be an authority on early American glass. Members hav ing cars are asked to furnish the transportation. The club mem bers will meet at the clubhouse at 12 o'clock. Those attending are asked to bring their own table service and sandwiches. MID WEEK BIBLE CLASS HONORS VERA GOETZ AT CHARMING SHOWER PARTY One of the most delightful par ties of the season was held Thurs day at the spacious home of Mrs. Earl Smith in Winston. Mrs Smith and Mrs. August Martin entertained the Mld-Week Bible class of St. Paul's Lutheran church at a one o'clock politick luncheon. The rooms were Mslo fully decorated with large bou quets of colorful rhododendrons and beautiful roses. INTER SE STUDY CLUB HAS DELIGHTFUL MEETING ON TUESDAY Mrs. Jav Young entertained the Inter Re Study club at a charming one o'clock luncheon Tuesday nt her home at Melrose. A beautiful lace cloth covered the table cen tered with a dainty arrangement of wild lilac and Dutch iris. Mrs. R. R. Brand, club chair man for the last year, was hon ored by the club presenting n beautiful gift to her. Mrs. B. A. Mollis, club chairman for the com ing year and also program chair man, distributed the very excel lent material for next year's study. The club will study the Pan American countries and has adopted the documentary mate rial for the "Good Neighbor" tour of the General Federation of Women's clubs as the basis for this study. Attractive programs for the coming year, made by Mrs. James Davis, were given the club members. These were clev erly arranged in the form of a steamship ticket for the "Good Neighbor" tour. Interesting roll-call topics were given by Mrs. E. S. Hall and Mrs. Charles Doerner. The last of the year's reports on Nobel prize win ners was given by Mrs. V. V. Harpham, who gave a very well prepared and Intensely interest- Ing report or the lite or I'eari Buck. Unusual material in the form of letters and pictures from personal friends of Mrs. Buck were presented by Mrs. Harpham and much enjoyed by the group. There will be no study meetings until fall, but the club members will meet at the home of Mrs. Brand in the near future at which time they will make infant gar ments for use at the Mercy hos pital in response to a need describ ed to the group by Mi s.
