ROSEBURG AND OAKLAND EASTERN STAR TO HONOR WORTHY GRAND MATRON Mrs. Hallie Huntington, of Eu gene, worthy grand matron of the Oregon Eastern Star, will pay her official visit to Roseburg and Oakland chapters at a joint meet ing to be held at the Masonic temple in this city at eight o'clock Thursday evening. Other grand officers will accompany Mrs. Huntington to Roseburg for this interesting meeting. Mrs. Maurice J. Newland, wor thy matron ofr Roseburg chapter, and Mrs. John Hakunson, worthy matron of the Oakland chapter, will preside. The evening's en tertainment will be in charge of the Oakland chapter. Job's Daughters drill team will present a beautiful floral drill and the re freshments will be in charge of Mrs. A. B. Taylor and Mrs. H. D. Quine. WEST CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY AT DINNER CANYONVTLLE, April 22. Mrs. Eliza West celebrated her eightieth birthday with a dinner at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dennis Hanks, Sunday. This is the first time since she was twelve years old, that her birth-1 day has come on Easter Sunday. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Hanks, William Walker and Glenn Walker. ' . GARDEN VALLEY CLUB TO ENJOY MAY-DAY LUNCHEON The Garden Valley Women's club will celebrate lis twenty sixth anniversary at a very charming May-day luncheon at 12:30 o'clock Thursday at the clubhouse. Carnall entertained at a delicious turkey dinner at 7:30 on Friday evening. A beautiful lace cloth covered the long table in the dining room where covers were placed for Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hook and small daugh ter, Sally Jean, from Glide, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Siegal, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barnes, Mrs. Bell Clark, Mrs. R. The annual May day chicken dinner of the Sutherlin Methodist church will be open to the public Friday, May 2, at six o'clock at the church parlors. This is one of the largest projects sponsored by the group in the Sutherlin community and this year's din ner promises to be one of the finest sponsored there in years. POTLUCK DINNER IS ENJOYED CANYONVILLE, April 28. The ladies of the Methodist , ,unn. church gave a potluck dinner at the community building Friday evening, for the members and the friends of the church. RED CROSS MEETING IS HELD WEDNESDAY YONCALLA .April 23 A meet ing of the Yoncalla Red Cross was held Wednesday afternoon at the Church of Christ. A number of friends gathered at the home of Mrs. Roy Carnall Tuesday to finish a quilt made by the group this spring. The quilt was won by Mrs. Charles Siegal. Those enjoy ing the day were Mrs. Charles Siegal, Mrs. Grace Barnes, Mrs. Minnie Loekwood, Mrs. Bell Clark and the hostess, Mrs. Car nall. HAS THURSDAY SUTHERLIN, April 29.-The Woman's Society of Christian Service met In the church par lors Thursday afternoon. April 24, In the Interest of mission busi ness. The devotionals were con ducted by Mrs. Stella French, who opened the program with the hymn, "My Jesus I Love Thee," by all. She chose as her subject, "Love, the Greatest Thing In the World," Jesus had said, "If Ye Love Me, Keep My Commandments." Each onc pres ent was asked to give a verse from the Bible pertaining to love, or some poem expressing love. Some very good thoughts were given, a silent prayer was of fered for Mrs. O. A. Jacobson, who is entering the hospital in Eugene. She closed the program with a short prayer. The roll was called and the business meeting followed, conducted by the presi dent, Mrs. Nellie Parker. The Lenten offering was taken. Mrs. Chris Bachman gave a very in teresting report on the sub-district meeting of the Cascade con ference of the ladies society at Roseburg Tuesday. The meeting was composed of societies from the Roseburg and Cottage Grove areas. Those present at the meeting were Mrs. A. P. Slack, Mrs. W. M. French, Mrs. D. W. Banker, Mrs. E. L. Cross, Mrs. P. A.
