March Weather Here Showed No Fresh Extremes Weather for the montli of March was far above the norm al in average daily temperature, although no new extremes in any department were recorded, ac cording to J. C. McCallister, in charge of the local office of the U. S. weather bureau, who has compiled the summary of weath er statistics for the past month. ne average daily tempera ture was 5.5 degrees above the normal, while the highest tern- , ueramre was 76 dpgrees and the luncat i eaumg was uegrecs, as compared with record ex tremes of 85 and 18 degrees. Since the first of January the temperature records show daily temperatures to be 4.8 degrees above the normal mark. March also was below normal In rainfall, total precipitation be ing only 1.08 inches as compar ed with a normal of 3.28 Inches. This light rainfall, however, set no new record, as there have been several years in which the month of March brought less than an inch of rain. The least rainfall was in March, 1926, 1 when records show only .06 of Inn inch of precipitation. I There were 9 clear days, 7 partly cloudy and 11 with meas urable precipitation. The rainfall deficiency of 2.20 Inches for March brought the to tal deficiency since Sept. 1, 1940, to 3.56 inches, and the deficiency since Jan. 1, 1941, to 5.79 inches. One unusual feature of the weather of the past month was a severe electrical storm on the 29th. It is seldom that thunder storms occur so early in the season. FUNNY BUSINESS Pork Demand Ups Feeding of Wheat With hogs at their highest market level for several years and prospects of continued rlc round for pork, Oregon producers have an opportunity to convert low-priced wheut into high priced meat, Judging from the results obtained In surplus wheat feed ing experiments at the Oregon experiment station. Wheat has been fed lo hogs In direct comparison with coin and other feed grains at the station and has been found Just as valu able xund for pound. In onn teat the average amount of feed required for 100 pounds gain was 369 pounds of coin, and 364 pounds of wheat. Furthermore, it was found that wheal fed hogs had firmer carcasses than corn fed hogs shipped In from the em u hell, which confirms the oft re peated opinion of Portland meal packers that western wheat (al iened hogs excel in Ibis respect. I API--Tons of trash fish, principally chubs, floated to the surface Monday fol lowing the pir.sonlng of South Twin lake, Charles A. Lockwood said today. The fiOacre lake in the upper Deschutes basin was cleaned out with debris root compound spread in marginal waters and scattered wilh depth bombs, Lockwood, game department official in charge, reported.
