Mrs. Alfred Bohlander, nee Mary Kingery was pleasantly surpris ed Saturday afternoon, when Mrs. Jean Cowan and Mi s. Grace Cowan entertained at a miscel laneous shower for Mrs. Boh lander. A. held a business meeting at the Melrose grange ball. Wednesday evening. This is the first meeting of this year with five of the six new offic ers taking their offices. LARGE BENEFIT- CARD PARTY TO BE HELD AT ARMORY JANUARY 30 Elaborate plans are being made by the Douglas county committee for the national In fantile paralysis drive for funds, headed by Attorney Thomas Hartfiel, for a large benefit card party to be held at the armory Thursday evening, January 30, at eight o'clock. The public has been cordially invited to enjoy tho party and to assist the drive for funds for the infantile par alysis foundation. Contract bridge, five hundred, and pinochle will be in play and prizes will be awarded and re freshments will be served. Tho general public is being solicited to help with this benefit affair and all persons who do not care to play cards are asked to help by donating to the fund. Attor ney Hartfiel is being assisted with the affair by Mrs. D. W. Helliwell. . Reservations for the party may be made by telephoning a member of the committee head ed by Mrs. Clair K. AND MRS. ULAM ENTERTAIN AT PARTY DAYS CREEK, Jan. 23. On he evening of Saturday, Janu ary 11, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Ulam entertained with a charming card party complimenting Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Moore whose twentieth wedding anniversary occurred the following Wednes day. Progressive five hundred was the diversion of tho evening with Mrs. Gordon Clark winning the high score prize for the wo men and Jack Gaulke for the men while Mrs. T. L. Mrs. Faye Ambrose, grand associate ma tron or the Eastern Star made her official visit to Drain and Elkt-on chapters Sunday after noon at a joint meeting at Elk ton. A school of instruction was held followed by a lunch served by Mrs. Gladys Griffith, Mrs. Elizabeth Braman and Joseph Hudson. A gift was presented to Mrs. Ambrose and a number of speeches were made while at the table. Elkton chapter will go to Drain the evening of Feb. .5 for a district meeting. The Study club met Friday at the home of Mrs. Greta Bloomquist. Members present were Mesdames Maude Cowles, Mildred Whipple, Vera Patchen, Bessie Lakey, Edna Kenney, Mae Light, Lola Delaney, Madeline Cool, Effle Austen, Tomasa Trimble and Gertrude Goodmanson. Mrs. Mildred Whip ple discussed "Music in the Films," Mrs. Bessie Lakey read a paper on "Mexico before Cor toz," and Mrs. Gertrude Good manson gave a demonstration on painting portraits. Mrs. Bes sie Smith was a charming hos tess to the Teachers club last Fri day evening. The pleasant even ing hours were spent in playing bingo with Miss Florence Allis winning first prize. The Ladles of the Christian church held a pot luck luncheon and missionary meeting at the church Wednes day. Immediately after the lunch eon the business meeting was held and plans discussed for work In the new year. China was the topic for the missionary lesson, with Mrs. C .F. Trimble as leader. Mrs. Edna Kenny led devotions. Mrs. Ruby Thomas read a naner on China. Mrs. Velma Halde man gave a talk, and Mrs. Ruby Thomas, sang a Chinese song, Mrs. Inez Rice read a poem. Those enjoying the luncheon were Rev. and Mrs. C. F. Trimble, and Mesdames Rico, Robertson, Madden, Beasley, Barker, Patch en, Kenny, Boak, Hargan, Coons, Thomas, Perkins and Harlan. Mesdames Gardner and Halde man came after luncheon for the program. BRIDGE CLUB MEETS AT HOME OF MRS. LIGHT DRAIN, Jan. 23. The regular meeting of the Bridge club was held recently at the home of Mrs. Mae Light. Those present were Mesdames Helen Griswold, Ruby Thomas, Velma Cool, Blanche Snook, Carol Gorman, Madeline Cool, Gertrude Goodmanson, Vcva Olson, Lorctta Varlcy, Dorothy Randall, and Miss Signa Woods. First prize wont to Mrs. Velma Cool and second to Mrs. Loretta Varley, the guest prize to Mrs. Madeline Cool, the honor prize. A delicious lunch was served. ANN BOVINGDON IS ON HONOR ROLL OREGON COLLEGE OF EDU CATION, Monmouth, Jan. 22. Ann Bovingdon of Oakland, has been named on the second honoi roll at the Oregon College of Education. Those students who carry at least 15 term hours for tho quarter and earn a grade point average of 3, or bolter are eligible for this honor. About 17 per cent of the total student body earned places on the second honor roll this fall term. Miss Bovingdon is the daugh ter of James C.
