THREE" Society and Clubs JUNIOR DEPARTMENT ORGANIZES WORK The junior department of the First Christian church Bible school met at the home of Mrs. Kmma R. Sprafiue this week to organize their missionary work. The following officers were rlected: President, Harold Bou cock, Jr.; vice-president, Donald Gibbs, Jr.; secretary, Bruce Saunders; treasurer, Nancy Ra dabaugh and musician, Shirley llae Wood. The group is studying Units on American Indians. Following the opening of the meeting Har old Boucock gave a book review on an Indian story and Mrs. I Sprague told a missionary Indian I true story, after which a social hour of games was enjoyed and refreshments were served by Mrs. Sprague, assisted by Mrs. II. L. Boucock. Those present included: Betty Hendricks, Shir ley Matthews, Tommy Carter, Shirley Mae Wood, Donald Gibbs, Edward Decker, Harold Boucock, lirusc Saunders, Mrs. Boucock ind Mrs. Sprague. COUNCIL MEETING HELD WEDNESDAY The Douglas county council held a regular meeting at the junior high school music room Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 15. Arrangements for attending the biennial convention of the Ore gon Parent-Teacher associations in Eugene April 22, 23, 24 were discussed. It was voted to allow three dollars to help defray the expenses of a delegate from the ' council. A nominating commit tee for the election of officers for the coming year, consisting of Mrs. P. A. Ackley and Mrs. T. Hendricks, was selected by the president, Mrs. Carl Rose lund. Reports were given by representatives from local units in the county. A resume of the work done by the Sutherlin Parent-Teacher club was made by Mr. Bachman, president of the group. Mrs. Mulkev, chairman of the social committee, outlined plans for the annual silver tea to be held at the Methodist church, Jan. 29. On this date all Feder ated clubs, throughout the slate will make an organized effort to raise funds for the scholarship loan fund. This fund has help ed more than 1,700 girls finish their college education. The Yon calla club will hold their tea on that date, and a program of mu sic consisting of vocal solos by Mrs. Lula Gorrell and Hugh Haskell, grade school chorus will be given. Mrs. Gorrell will also be guest speaker and will talk on "Chinese Works of Art." Her Chinese art exhibit will be on display. Mrs. Lloyd Pinkston has charge of antiques and art ex hibit. The public Is invited to bring articles they may have to make the display more worth while. Kunds collected from the free 1 offering will go to benefit both the scholarship loan fund and Doernbecker hospital. The program for the study hour was on Ecuador. Excellent papers were read from Guaya quil to Quito by Mi's. Hugh War ner. "Churches and Cathedrals of Quito," Mrs. Sam Walkinshaw, and Art Treasurers of Latin America by Mrs. Earl Strong. Dalziel of Portland, state director of the society. The B. G. A. society, which is represented in this county by. Mis. Walter Fisher of Roseburg, is the only agency in Oregon and one of a comparatively small number In the northwest qualify ing for full membership in the league, which is an alliance of organizations caring for children in the U. S. and Canada. The society is noted for its medical program, efficient staff, and its discrimination in finding homes suited to the particular needs of the child. GEORGE STARMER AUXILIARY TO MEET YONCALLA, Jan. 22. T h e Odd Fellows hall was packed to capacity, Saturday evening, when the annual turkey picKors ball was held. Dancing was en joyed until a late hour, after which a delicious turkey supper was served to about 175 people. Music for the ball was furnished by the Yoncalla orchestra.
