One of the big meetings of the year was held Tuesday night for the Ump qua Rebekah lodge, No. 173 when the I. O. O. F. lodge was their guest for installing the new of ficers. Miss Ann Heubner, Mrs. Gladys Griffith and Mrs. Barbara Tar nowski were on the refreshment committee for the evening. MR. AND MRS. TISON ENTERTAIN AT DANCE DAYS CREEK, Jan. 13. One of the largest and most enjoyable parties of the new year occurred Saturday evening when Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Tison entertained with an old time dance at their Days Creek ranch. Music for the affair was furnished by Jack Gaulke, Art Moore, Clarence and Vernon Tison, Raymond Spore and R. A. Moore. At a late hour a Dotluck lunch was enjoyed bv Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sumner, Mr. and Mrs. Jack HIceins, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wright of Roseburg. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. PRESBYTERIAN AID TO MEET ON THURSDAY The ladies aid society of the First Presbyterian church will meet Thursdav. January IRth, at a one-thirty o'clock dessert-luncheon at the church narlors with Mrs. Frederick J. Porter. Mrs. Willis Myers, Mrs. L. Robinson and Mrs. John Pinkcrton as hos tesses. Camas Valley Garden club will meet Wednesday afternoon, Jan uary 15, at 2 o'clock at the home of Mrs. C. W. Mayer. A large at tendance is asked to attend and enjoy the garden and "special" discussion. A special feature on cedar and Its uses will be given by Mrs. Frances Thrasher. ART AND EMBROIDERY CLUB CHANGES MEETING The Roseburg Art and Embroi dery club, which was to have met this week, will Instead meet next week, Wednesday, January 22nd, at the home of Mrs. R. L. COUNTRY CLUB LADIES TO MEET ON THURSDAY The ladles of the Roseburg Country club will meet Thursday morning at the club house with contract bridge play opening at nine-thirty o'clock. Potluck lunch eon will be served at twelve-thir ty o'clock and golfing will be en joyed at one-thirty. All ladies of the club are urged to be present. MR. AND MRS. W. TISON ENTERTAIN AT PARTY DAYS CREEK, Jan. 13. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Tison entertain ed at a delightful dancing party at their attractive home near Drew Tuesday evening. EASTERN STAR TO CELEBRATE 55TH ANNIVERSARY THURSDAY The fifty-fifth anniversary of Roseburg chapter of Eastern Star will be celebrated at a very large and charming affair Thursday night at 8 o'clock at the Masonic temple. Mrs. Maurice J. Newland, worthy matron, will preside. Mrs. George Kohlhagen, char ter member of Roseburg chapter, will be guest of honor of the eve ning and three members of forty or more years' standing will also be honored. Mrs. John E. Runyan and Mrs. Andrew J. Ford are joint chairmen of the refresh ment committee. Initiation will take place during chapter meet ing. Members and visiting mem bers are cordially invited to at tend. AVIS ALTHEA AG EE AND WILLIAM RUSSELL KNAGGS QUEITLY MARRIED SUNDAY Avis Althea (Peggy) Agee. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Agee of Greens, and William Rus sell Knaggs, of this city, were quietly married at an impressive ring ceremony at two o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Charles A. Ed wards on South Kane street. Dr. Edwards performed the cere mony in the presence of the bride's parents and the bride groom's mother. The bride wore an attractive ensemble of gold-colored mate rial and a corsage of white Ca millas. Following a wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Knaggs will return to Roseburg to make their home. AH-NEAH-NIKA GROUP HAS MEETING THURSDAY The Ah-Neah-Nika Camp Fire group held an interesting meet ing Thursday with Betty Lou Crocker presiding. Reports of the Christmas card sale were given and new officers elected include: president, Yvonne Hiatt; vice president; Joan Parker; secretary-treasurer, Betty Lou Crock er; Sgt.-at-arms, Betty Smith, and scribe, Shirley Parker. SOCIAL CLUB HAS ENJOYABLE MEETING MYRTLE CREEK, Jan. 14. The Social club of the Eastern Star met for the first time in the now year at the lovely country home of Mrs. Bush on South Myrtle. After the regular business ses sion, the time was spent in sew ing and visiting. Delicious re freshments were served to the large number present by the hos tess. The first meeting of the Sunshine club In the new year was held Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Henry Smith. Mi's. John Jantzer and Mrs. Rollin Johns, president and sec retary for the past three years, gave reports on various things before turning the business meet ing over to the new president, Mrs. Harry Cooke, and secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Halbert Booth. The president appointed Mrs. Henry Smith vice-president. The following committees were also appointed, flower committee, Mrs. Lowell Curtis, Mrs. Henry oaeoecKe ana Mrs. ennmp jonns. The gift committee' consists of Mrs. William Jantzer and Mrs. Ora Condray. Names were also, exchanged for the secret sister society for the new year. The hpme of Mi-s. Harry Cooke was the scene of a delightful affair Wed nesday afternoon when the Azalea Sunday school held their silver, tea there. Approximately forty ladies from Glendale, Azalea and the surrounding community were present for the occasion. The serving table was covered with a beautiful lace cloth, cen tered with un attractive bouquet guarded by tall red tapers in crystal holders. Mrs. Howard and Mrs. John Oldenburg poured. The committee In charge of the tea consisted of Mrs. George McPherran, Mrs. Walter Tanner, Mrs. John Jantzer, Mrs. Allie Garrison, Mrs. John Oldenburg and Mrs. Cooke. ALTAR SOCIETY CHANGES ' MEETING TO THURSDAY St. Joseph's Altar society will meet at a 12:30 potluck luncheon Thursday, January 16th, at the home of Mrs. Fayette Langenberg instead of Wednesday at the F. Clara Ream Dies At Klamath Falls Word was received here today of the death late Monday In Klamath Falls of Clara Edith Ream, 66, a resident of Roseburg for many years. Mrs. Reams death occurred at the homo of her sister, Charlotte Agee, in Klamath Falls. She was born at West Union, Oregon, Nov. 21, 1874. Her hus band died several years ago. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Agee, Klamath Falls, and Leona Morln, Allegheny, ' Oregon, and two brothers, D. H. Lenox, Rose burg, and George Lenox, Klam ath Falls. Mrs. Ream was a step sister of Sam Bolsinger and Mrs. Louis Kohlhagen, Sr., both of Roseburg.' The body Is to bo brought fo this city and services will be held at the Roseburg Undertaking company chapel at 2 p. m. Thurs day, Rev. H. P. Sconce officiat ing. The time for services, which will be arranged by the Roseburg Undertaking company, has not been determined. Albert E. Payne Passes Away at Umpqua Park Albert (Bert) E. Payne, fruit grower of the Umpqua park com munity, Immediately south of Roseburg, died last night after a long Illness. Ho was 70 years of age. A brother survives.
