Horn at Troy, Missouri, Jan. 9, 1884. he came to HoHcburg In 1917 and for the past 13 years had made his home ill or near Roseburg. Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. (irovlo Dunn, Lois and Edna Mae Updike anil a son, Robert Updike, all of Roseburg. Funeral arrangements are living postponed while an efi'ort Is made to locate Lois Updike, who Ih on a vacation trip along the Oregon coast. She had heard lectures on clouds nnd cloud formations and what they Indicated as to weather conditions. She had rend books on tho theory of flight, the history of flying, and she had thought of In struments until she saw them In her sleep. But this learning- to handle the controls of the ship herself and putting It through va rious maneuvers was dllfcreut. It was real. It was thrilling. "You'll uphold tho lumlly's fly ing honor," Dick Douglas told her. "Ilow'd you like II?" Sho grinned back at him, "Yi might have known I'd bo crazy about it." "I suspected it." Dick told her. Ho frowned, and added. "Too had your red headed Irlend quit on Us." lioorgetlo's face clouded. "She hasn't really quit," she protested, "Anne's quick-tempered, and she's impulsive, but she'll be oul here with me tomorrow." "Well. she'll have another: chance." As she drove away from tho air port, however, she felt a little less sure. That combination of quick temper anil Impulsiveness was always leading Anne Into mistakes, (leorgette only hoped It. would never load her Into a sell- ons one. No. perhaps it would he best If Anne's disappearance were not made public. That let out calling up Anne's uncle, too. But how was she to find Anne by her self? The scrap of notebook paper stuck In the mirror caught her eye. Quickly she unfolded it and read It. r "(leorgette darling I don't rare what anyone says about Tony's background weVe on our way to be married. Don't tell. PLEASE, until 1 give tho word. Love Anue." She stared al the note for a mo ment, thinking last. Anno and Tony must be on tlielr way to North Point, the marriage mill, some throe hours driving distance from Midland. Somehow she must gel there In time to stop Anno. But the elopers must be half-way thereby now. If sho could or,ly fly.' Ely! An amazingly short time later she stood earnestly talking with Hick Douglas. "If you think," ho was saying coldly, "that 1 have time to go chasing alter that rattlebrained co-ed and her good-for-nothing young " (leorgetto interrupted him, lior voice desperate. "Dick, you must. Anne doesn't know what she's do ing. If I could only talk to her, I know she'd chango her mind."
