WPA ad ministrator, said today the WPA "was considering two plans to prune Us rolls in accord with th reduction appropriation, voted it by congress. There are now approximately 3.000,000 WPA workers, Harring ton said. Congress has voted S725.000.000 to carry the WPA pro gram to July 1, with a provision no reduction can be made in the rolls during the winter months. "One alternative we have is to make a reduction of 1.000,000 men on April 1." Harrington stated at a press conference called after ho met with his -IS state administra tors. "The other alternative Is a more gradual reduction after April 1, but involving about J ,750,000 meu. We have not yet decided the meth od to bo folh)wed.'J Asked by a reporter what he thought would be the conse quences or tho layoff, Harrington naid: "1 think the layofr will bring n widespread protest. 1 think there will be a great doal of want, too."
