A very enjoyable social hour of games, Bewing and visiting was enjoyed. Mrs. Virginia Campbell won the club prize mid Mrs. Martha Kr skine won the tea towels. Registration is not required. 31 INDICTED FDR ILLEGAL SURGERY! SAN FRANCISCO, July 12. (AP) Thirty one persons were ac cused of being involved In a roast wide illegal operation syndicate in an indctment voted by the San Francisco grand Jury today. Nine doctors aud R. I. Rankin, head of the Medical Acceptance coiToralioii, whose offices were raided by police, were among the .31. The Jury voted the Indictment after hearing Dr. Charles E. Pink- ham, secretary of the state medi cal board, charge the syndicate financed and performed opera tions to abort childbirth. Testimony on which the Indict ment was based. Deputy District Attorney John McMahon said, in cluded: That the ring has been netting between $250,000 and $500,000 an nually. That women, loaned money for operations, were forced to repay it with exhorbltant interest. That approximately 4,400 cases have been handled annually. That physicians and others per forming operations have been paid as high as $1.0.00 monthly. Dr. Pink ham said he h-id been attempting for three years to smash the ring, which he declared had connections throughout California and in Oregon and Washington. The present investigation does not extend beyond California. Percy Croft, local Hudson-Tep roplano dealer, who recently leas ed his building on Jackson street to Montgomery Ward company, will move into the Hoover building, formerly occupied by the 7X Sup ply company, he announced to day. Tho Hoover building is lo be remodelled preparatory to be ing occupied by Mr. Croft. The change will be made late in the month. Tho , Montgomery Ward com pany is"making preparations to take over Mr, Croft's property on lease July 1. It adjoins the store's present quarters, and the two buildings will be thrown together to more than double the sales dis play capacity of the local branch store.
