Smith and Sherman Smith returned here Sunday from a two weeks outing and hunting trip spent in the hills out from Gallce. The doctor brought a buck back with him to attest to his prowess as a hun ter. Karl McMulllns and Walt Melss ner, two of Glendale's most ardent piscatorial fans, spent Sunday fish ing at the Rainey falls on Rogue river. Several steelheads and ell versides fell victims tp the lures cast by these two fishermen. Clifford Paige left Sunday for Powers where he has employment with the Coos Dumber company. He expects to work with a sur veying crew. Mr. and Mm. A. G. Clarke arriv ed here Friday and have been spending the week at their home in this city because of various busi ness matters here requiring Mr. Clarke's attention. They have been making their summer home on up per Cow creek and expect to move back here soon. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Harvey re turned Sunday from several days outing spent with friends from in dependence at Alameda on the Ro gue. They report a very enjoyable time witn fairly good i idling re sults. The local high school girls have takeu up volley ball as an athletic diversion under the direction of Miss Helene Gregg. Sherman Smith left here Tues day morning for Seattle, Wash., where he will enroll at the uni versity of Washington for his sen ior year in the study of law. Smith p evlously attended the University of Oregon at Eugene. Harry Cool and son of Drain ar rived here Saturday and were over night guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gil bert Olson. He was accompanied on his return to Drain by Mrs. Cool and his sister-in-law, Miss Bess Marshall, who have been vis iting for the past week at the home of their mother, Mrs. Olson. Olger Sether and children, Alice and Walter, motored to Grants Pass where they visited last Sat urday. Mrs. J. O. I.ystul and Miss Ger trude Nebel visited and shopped at Grants Pass Tuesday. Lester J. Harding returned to his home in this city Sunday after spending several days attending to various business matters in Port land. Dr. George E. Houck and Mrs. Ellen Post, county health nurse, of Roseburg, co-operating with the Glendale health unit, held a very successful pre-school clinic at the Lutheran church in this city last Thursday afternoon. Ed Johns, well known Cow Creeker, now employed as a fore man on a construction job in the national park service at Crater lake, was a business caller in Glendale Thursday. While here Johns hired nearly 30 men to go to Crater lake at once. They will be employed In falling timber and clearing the right of way for the rim road around the lake that u - the government Is building. The Job is expected to last approxi mately two months. C. Frank Woodley and family re turned to their home on Willis avenue last Wednesday after spending several weeks working in a prune orchard near Riddle. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Miller spent several days here visiting at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. tv. A. Meissner. Miller Is now operating the old Leighton placer mine on Ferris gulch on the upper Apple- gate valley in Josephine county. This is one of the oldest placer mines in that locality. E. E. Romfg and son Ed, of Grants Pass, passed through here Friday on their way to the Gold Bug mine in the Mount Reuben district. The Gold Bug was at one time a rich producer. In recent years the mine has been closed down and the property more or less involved in litigation. The Romfgs, who now control the pro perty, are doing some development work there. Mr. and Mrs. George Morey are moving to Dothnn where Morey will be employed on the section by the Southern Pacific company. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Snyder, Mrs. D. N. Snyder and Miss Luella Cunningham attended to business matters and visited with friends at Roseburg Thursday.
