National Recognition In recognition of the outstanding achievements in community ser vice for the year 1929, the nation al officers of the American legion auxiliary have presented Umpqua unit with a national certificate of award. This is the only certifi cate of its kind which was pre sented in the entire United States for that year and Umpqua unit feels justly proud that it can bring this honor to Roseburg. While this honor comes as a spe cial tribute for community activi ties for the year 1929, this honor would not have been -possible but for the number of years of good leadership and hard work by the membership. Mrs. George Caskey, junior past president, served dur ing the past year and this splendid record was due in no small meas ure to her leadership. Douglas County Band to Give Entertainment on February 7 A coming event of much inter est is the Douglas county band concert, sponsored by the senior high school parent-teacher associa tion, which will be held on Febru ary 7 in the senior high school auditorium. At a recent meeting of the P. T. A. it was decided to sponsor the tennis courts for the students' use. The Douglas county band has offered its services and has obtained some of the best lo cal talent possible to assist with the musical program of February 7.
