Laugan was standing at tbebar talking tn the proprietor when, the bandits entered. "Stick 'em up; we're policemen," one of them cried. Iingan pushed toward them, fir ing as he went. The bandits fled to the door, returning the fire. The nomination of Chancellor Jones, which met opposition from severnl senators who contended that his qualifications had not been sufficiently established, was sent to a committee of the senate for further consideration. I do not see how any man could go on the commission." Chancellor Jones said today, "and feel abso lutely free and unembarrassed In discharging his duties under his oath, for he knows that however righteous his decisions mny be, the fiery wrath of some sections, class or interests, is sure to fall unon his head.
