July 11 Philip Sowers by. one of Kiddle's popular young men, who is now residing In New York, was married Sunday eve ning In Porlland to Miss Crystal Wilcox. Archdeacon Claude Klack performing .the ceremony. Mr. Sowersby came west by auto and visited here a short time with his parents before going to Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Sowersby, his pa rents, accompanied him to Port land to attend the ceremony. On Monday the young couple started on the return trip to New York. Phil has lived most of his life here and has many friends to wish him happiness. A Scotchman and his wife en tered a restaurant and he ordered one sandwich. Ijast year a group of former pu pils of Mr. Cochran planned a pic nic with the Idea of getting togetn er as many as possible of his oid pupils from the Oakland and Wil bur schools where he taught for many years, first at Wilbur and later at Oakland. t This picnic was held last July at Huttons -Grove and twenty-five lormer pupils met with Mr. Coch ran, and at tiiat time it was unani mously agreed to bold another this year at the same place. A committee have been work ing hard to make this a success and are making every effort to get In touch with those especially in terented. Endur ance, refueling and distance rec ords of a kind are claimed by three Athens men. Tom Moore, engineer; Arthur Cox, conductor, and John -Mann, fireman, are waiting to see which retires after 42 years of labor on the same train. Moore estimates he has guided the train the equivalent of 80 times around the earth.
