HUGE BREWERY PLANT FOUND IN CHICAGO ( A'WM-jatf" frt-M Iawil Mire CHICAGO. June 2. A brewery, capable of producing Jijo.OuO worth of beer a week, was discovered yesterday in an old brick building on the near south side. It was desert )ed as one of the largest Illicit plants found in Chlhcago since piohibition. The brewery contained 60 bar rel steel ferine nLers with a capa city of 1000 barrels a week. When prohibition agents smashed into the place they found 8000 gallons ready to be marketed. The place was deserted at the time of the raid. BE IN OPERATION All of the final papers In con nection with the installation of the proposed sawmill in North Roseburg were signed Saturday, the money paid over and all pre liminary details pertaining to the project completed. Mr. ford, own er of the mill, spent the day here and made arrangements to Btait work at once excavating for the mill pond. He is the owner of a fine mill at Lebanon and plans to move the outfit here within the next two or three weeks. Exten sion of the railroad spur is also ti be started at once. Mr. Ford slates that he expects the mill operating within the next 60 days. The plant has a daily capacity of about 30.000 fuel, but it Is plan ned to install additional equipment within tho near future to provide a larger output, and the mill will bo expanded as conditions war rant. Tills was a gain of 32 per cent over March and the highest level reach ed since June, 1U28. New work being planned totals 40,000.000, an increase or 13 per cent ovei one year ago. Building contracts gained in all sections of the country compared with March. In the northwest, the Increase was 100 per cent over the preceding month and 54 per cent over one year before, reflect ing improved general conditions in that section. The southeast had a gain of B2 per cent over March, as did New York state and north ern New Jersey. High money rates have been held responsible for retarding new construction during the early months of 1929. However, the de cline was confined largely to spe culative residential building around some of the large metropolitan centers. EW POWEfi LIE Excellent progress Is being made on the construction of the power line between Hoseburg and Coos Bay, according to T. H. Ness, manager of the Umiqua division ot the California Oregon Power company. Three crews are being worked, one out ot Koseburg, an other at Sitkum and one at Fair view. The Hoseburg crew, which consists of 70 men, Is completing the brushing out between Rose burg and Reston, and has the work nearly fblished. Materials are be ing delivered along the line so that installation will be commenced in the very near future. A crew of 80 men Is camped at Sitkum and is also engaged in clearing the brush off the right of way. A survey crew is located at Fuirview and Is mak ing th tinal location on the west end of the line. The company is spending more than half a million dollars hi the construction of this line, which will be un important factor In linking up the power service of Coos Day and the Ump qua valley and will also serve in termediate points.
