When the Douglas county court house was planned It was doslred to erect a substantial and attrac tive building, and yet Keep the coat down to tnu lowest poHsiuie llgure. By using this Utiltm Mr. 'I'ourtei loite was able to cut his estimate considerable under the amount that would bave been required til using a stucco finish, and ho the plans were drawn to erect the court house using this method. As the forms were built they were lined with ordinary building, or plaster board. The plaster beard, In turn, was marked otf in the form of blocks, by Hitiall sticks. The building board was then coat ed with a special varnish to pre vent the concrete from adhuring. As the concrete was poured, ex treme care was used to obtain the proper mixture and to prevent "pockets" or flaws again tH the forms. As a result, when the forms wore removed the concrete was cast ith a smooth, even fin ish, marked off to represent cut stone blocks. One enters a small porch and stops directly Into a large, well shaped living room with tiie open fireplace opposite the doorway. To the left Is a coat closet and on the rifght, French windows leading to an open porch. A glass door leads to the dining room. Thie room is almost square In design, with two windows looking out on the gar den. A small hallway separates this room from the kitchen. Hero a pantry has been provided and a separate niche for the refrigera tor. This kitchen has a small porch. A well-plnnned small hall sep arates the (wo well-designed bed rooms and bath and three clonets from the rest of the rooms. Mr. Stevenson has been engaged in the sale and manu facture of lumber on the Pacific coast for many years. Mr. Jack son was formerly employed by the l.ystul-Dawsou Lumber company of this city. Their combined experi ence Hhould quality them to make a success of this new enterprise. We are advised that a site for the proposed plant, adjoining the Southern Pacific railroad trucks iu Glendaie, has already been leased. The Conifer Lumber company is taking steps to incorporate its business and will offer a limited amount of preferred stock for sale upon terms whereby the subscril) ers will receive an annual dividend of 8 per cent and in addition will share in a substantial portion of the net pYofits of the corporation.
