Adhering steadfastly to this view, the coua cilmen last Saturday, for the second time, refused to con firm the mayor's appointments for electrical inspector and street commissioner. lletalialinK, the mayor blocked an ef fort of the couucilmen to continue the street cleaning civ.v on the job as temporary employees and added the declaratio.i that he would sign no warrants after this month to pay th-' present street commissioner, whom, by the way, Mayor Hoover charged with having publicly insulted him. An nouncement that a third attempt would be made at the first regular meeting in February to reach an agreement on the points in dispute arouses liltle or no hope that the deadlock will be broken. Mayor Hoover evidently is firm in his be lief that it is his duty to slash the salaries of city positions if bv so doing he can effect a saving of $2,000 a year not Well tellers They're gonna I Have another Battle of the Century T'n oht Th' council le meetin' agin An' doin' nuthin' Except waste Electricity!
