Lock wood home in Laurelwood. A spark from the furnace apparent ly caught in a pile -of rubbish in the basement and smoldered for considerable time before- the fire was discovered. The- fire depart ment was greatly- handicapped by the volume of smoke which had to be cleared away before the flames could be reached. Although hose was laid and mad: available in case of necessity, only chemicals were used in fighting the fire. Mr., Lockwood highly praised the de partment, following the. '.fire for the efficient manner In which they handled the situation, and partlcu-j laiiy for their care In avoiding any, more damage than was absolutely, necessary in order to get to the flames which were in a difficult' place to reach.
