In a report Just issued by the jJnited States department yi labor agricultural 'and general employment prospects for 1926 are pointed out as exceedingly pptimisfic. Referring to Oregon the report states :. ' ' "A spirit of optimism prevades everywhere in industry. There is every reason to believe that the lumber industry Uvill operate its satisfactorily in 1926 as in 1925. Lumber Operators believe that 1926 will be a big building year and fthat, with the curtailing' necessary on account of weather conditions the next few months, with the coming of spring 'there' will be a heavy demand for lumber, which will mean 'increased employment in this industry. Various cites, Especially Portland, plan large building programs, and resi dent building craftsmen are mqre or less assured of steady employment during the spring and summer months. It is - -expected that the state will spend approximately $6,000,000 'for state highway work during 1926. This work will afford employment to a large volume Of labor, principally unskilled. ;'he farmers predict that there will be a much larger acreage :pf potatoes in 1926 than in 1925, and on account of the urj .jfatyprab,Ie weather the past fall there will undoubtedly be a rtonsiderable increase fn the acreage pf spring wheat to be "planted, in 1926." . . . 2 Roseburg and Douglas county at large will share in the general prosperity predicted for Oregon and' yill show greater gains in a building and business way during the pre-, Ifent year than ever before.' That 1926 is going to outstep 'the year just closed there is no question of doubt and busi ness in all lines' will show a material gain. The fellow, who stands on the street corners peddling a "pessimistic line of bunk that' discredits his own home town '' Will be brushed into the gutter by the optimistic army of progressive business men and other who have a true vision -oi the future. : by bcrts. bates ICOOD EVENING FOLKS i A folltr who aay ; Ho la tht brothor.
