KnlKhts of the Ku Klux Klan, I prepar- mc for a huge homecoming pro gram to the presented on the Bight of Monday. NovemLer 9th. All Klansmen of Roseburg and IJouglas county are expected to be present, and Invitations have 'been extended to all other klans of the state, many of whom are expected to be well represented. The Imperial representative of the state organization will , be prosent from Portland and will be the chief speaker. Consider able outside talent will be pre sent for the program, which will be of much Interest to all Klans mon. : . The only public feature of tbe homecoming will be the monster parade to be held at 7 o'clock. Several hundred robed klanamen and klanswomen will march In the parade, which will be led by the Douglas County Concert Hand. A float is being built for this event, the entry being of a symbolical nature. ' The parade will march over the usual route along Cass and Jackson street. Mayor Houck was requested to give permission for this parade, the Klan rules requiring such au thority from city executives, but following his usual policy the Ma yor advised Klan officials that as long as the parade Is conducted In an orderly manner, no permis sion wlll.be necessary in Iiose-burg. Monday was busy dsy for Justice; of the Peace George Jones, who Imposed Tines amounting to 1180. .The largest title of 2S0. was placed against Clarence Gould, charged wllh setting out a forest fires. Others were for violations of the Iraffle laws. James J. Martin was fined IIS and costs for driving a car with out lights. On a showing of reckless driving the Judge also took his driver's license for 30 days. I The first srreal under the new state lighting Jaw was made In the local justice court yesterday, Joseph L. Andrus being fined 15 for Improperly adjusted lights. Jacob K. Winters, of Marsh field, paid 110 and costs for driv ing with faulty brakes. James J. Hoblns entered a plea of not guilty to driving on the left hand side of the road. He featured In an accident. In which he was charged with being in the wrong position on 'the rosd. DELEGATES ARE HOME FROM STATE CONVENTION The Roseburg delegates to the state Parent-Teacher Association numbered the largest of any dele gation outside of that of Portland, according to the reporta of return ing delegates. This city Is the first to have teacher delegates to the state convention also. A number of changes were made by the convening delegates, among them the change made In the dis tricts, dividing the district's so that there aro now moro than formerly. Mrs. P. H. Churchill, who attended from the county council, was elect ed president of the eighth district, which Includes Lane and Douglas counties. The keynote of tbe con vention program was to promote the good relationship between the schools and the home. Miss Julia 8iooner gave a notable report on child labor amendment. . A great deal of discussion was held on the matter of clean literature. Miss Mildred Utarrctt, teacher of Cottage Grove, and former Itoseburg girl, gave an excellent paper during one seaslon. The president of the Na tional Congress of the Pareuta and Teachers, Mrs. A. II. Reeve, of Phil adelphia, addressed the convention, talking on t lie direct relationship of organisation and leadership An other Interesting dbcourso was giv en by Miss Mary MrSkimmcn, na tional president of the N. E. A., of Rrookllne, Massachusetts, discuss ing the needs and Usefulness of the P. T. A. Mrs. Muble Church, on bt hnlf of Roseburg, presented a boquet of chrysanthemums, the most beautiful that were seen at the convention. Tho Itoseburg delegates were ac corded fino treatment and were guests of the Portland teachers on a number of sightseeing trips. While In Portland the delegates from this city were guests at the home of the Misses Duckman. They valted the Ruekmsn school on the east side where the platoon system Is In effect and has been thorough ly worked out by Professor Gary. The record, how- . ever, was In 1895, when no rain-, fall at all was the mark recorded at the observatory.
