The month of October Just past,
although unusual In its lack of
rain. Is not a record breuker, flc-
cording to the monthly report i
filed this morning by William 1
Hell, meteorologist. The total
rainfall for the past month was
.05 of an Inch, the lowest finco
1U17. when the precipitation was:
.02 of an Inch. The record, how- .
ever, was In 1895, when no rain-,
fall at all was the mark recorded
at the observatory.
Several Octobers 1n tho past
49 years have been quite tow in
rainfall, although a figure under
one inch is rare. The average la
2. til inches. Last year the month i
of October broke all previous lc
ords, and sot the absolute niaxi-
mum for rainfall in any ono
month, when the total precliiitu-
tion reached 10.45 Inches.
