OLD CARS POUGHT FOR WRECKING Phone 553 Highway travel tn the West has come Into its own! Quite the most remarkable mo tor stafce ever built will operulo' on the Count route between Los AngeloH and Han KraneJsco, be ginning the middle ot September. Thi U ihe Pickwick Pnrlor Huffet Motor Coach, the flrt In hiatory to include a complete dining service with steward, a well-appointed luvatory and toi let. There are a dozen othr luxuries in the huge new c;r, but thene are overwhadowed by the farreachlng importance of the ad ded buffet and lavatory. These features, by eliminating the usual lunch and rest Htops necessary in motnr Btase travel, actually cut two hours from the Los Angeles-Han Francisco travel time. Thoy will ahorten all sche dules proportionately, as these cars are added to other branches of the Pickwick System, covering more than .1000 miles of travel routes between San Diego at) I Portland, and serving this city, as well as over a thousand other Western points. All precedent of stage travel will be upset by the Parlor-Huf-fet car, which has been designed and built entirely in the Los An geles shops of the Pickwick Cor poration, where hundreds of men will be engaged turning out In creasing numbers of these motor coaches. It will be enuipped- with reclining arm chairs moveable plate glass windows, ladies' com partment, smoker, observation section, individual -electric lights and a myriado luxuries never be fore associated with highway travel. The new motor coach la built on radically different lines from any type previously used. It is 32 feet in length, eight feet wide, with stream lines all its own. Tim lower part of the body is gray, the upper panels light blue, while a broad belt of dark blue separ ates the two colors and spreads over the hood to the nickled ra diator. ( The enviable record of Fafety held by the Pickwick System, something over i0,0(i0.noO-,'paa-senger miles covered without a passenger fatality, will 'he furtht-r protected by even more advanced safety features In the new stage. lual whels will give perfect trac tion In all weather. The brake have been made extra large, and the heavy frame Is doubly rein forced throughout. "Running liKhts are placed on the renders to outline Ihe position of the Par-lor-Huflet motor coach, when oa the rond at night, for the protec Hon of approaching drivers. With long, cradle-like ' rear springs double-decked, and with power ful air-cushions in place. the whole car Is floated as canity and smoothly a a giant dirigible in midair. "Even without the stimu lation of new models, Hudson-Essex business is maintaining a rec ,ord pace of activity. I "1Tih remarkable record of cars !sold in this fiiy, it Is declared, is simply in line with business done all aver tho United States a busi ness which has placed HmUon-Es-bvx as the largest makers of six cylinder cars in the world. "Nearly a year ago, our motor ists beau to recognize the out standing values in Hudson and Ea-ri'-x," continued Catching. "Now this knowledge has become fur I more widespread with the result that Hudson-Essex is doing a vol ume of business nationally, which is ihouands of cars a month larg er thau that of any other maker of six cylinder cars. As Hudson-Es- sex volume has Increased the pub lic has been given the benefit of t constantly lowered prices, so that now our cars sell for the lowest points in their history and at less .thau half their ''peak" price. It is no sure thing that prices can he maintained at so favorable a level. "Such a proKiam does not make a radical series of ups and downs in business, but rather results in a consistent and steadily growing volume. It depends on the public ctiming gradually to realize what Hudson and Essex offer and adver tise "value for the money." ' "Sometimes we are asked, ' What is thu reason behind Hud son ami Essex economies and low- red prices? What are the dis tingulshiui; features of Hudson Es-M-ir. manufacturing economy?' How tan prices be cut and quality Im proved? "First, as we said, Hudson-Essex is the largest six manufacturer in number of cars made.
