Hope that tho people of Oregon and the interstate commerce com mission will approve tho exten sion of his compnny's line from Ttend to Klamath Falls wan ex pressed hy Italph Hudd, president of the (.rent Northern Hall road In a statement issired here today. Ilo declared that tho develop ment of the Northwestern states, through which the Great North ern operates, will call for an ever incivaslng amount of Oregon lumber. Ilo added that a north ern outlet would prove of great benefit to the Klamath Falls country. Tho statement follows: "In 1909 .In ms J. Hill started to build into Cenaral Oregon. His policy then was, and thw Great Northern policy since has been, that the railroad construction un dertaken there should he along lines which would give the great est amount of service from a given expenditure of capital. H was the Intention In 1911, when tho Oregon Trunk was completed to Ttend, to .continue south but circumstances over which the ratlrond had no control, stopped construction In that part of the state until recently. Now It Is our belief that further construc tion Is justified and having made the major pnrt of the expenditure ncecsnary In order to reach into Orecon, It Is our hope that the people of Oregon and the Inter state commerce commission will approve the, extension of our line farther. "The S. P. ft S. and allied lines have cost $1 nO.nno.OOO. The Ore gon Trunk, S. P. ft 8. and Great Northern together provide a rou'e nearest approaching a water irrndo of any railroad In the east. The Great Northern has the larg est mileage of any railroad In Minnesota, North Dakota and Montana, where there la on In-crensin-T demand for Oregon lum ber. There Is no lumber in that territory and tho natural sourro of supply is from Pacific Coast territory.
