Ilo declared that tho develop
ment of the Northwestern states,
through which the Great North
ern operates, will call for an
ever incivaslng amount of Oregon
lumber. Ilo added that a north
ern outlet would prove of great
benefit to the Klamath Falls
country. Tho statement follows:
"In 1909 .In ms J. Hill started
to build into Cenaral Oregon. His
policy then was, and thw Great
Northern policy since has been,
that the railroad construction un
dertaken there should he along
lines which would give the great
est amount of service from a
given expenditure of capital. H
was the Intention In 1911, when
tho Oregon Trunk was completed
to Ttend, to .continue south but
circumstances over which the
ratlrond had no control, stopped
construction In that part of the
state until recently. Now It Is
our belief that further construc
tion Is justified and having made
the major pnrt of the expenditure
ncecsnary In order to reach into
Orecon, It Is our hope that the
people of Oregon and the Inter
state commerce commission will
approve the, extension of our line
farther.
"The S. P. ft S. and allied lines

gon Trunk, S. P. ft 8. and Great
Northern together provide a rou'e
