OAKLAND DEFEATED Second String Players Win From Oakland High Team by Score of 29 to 7. Paskethall fans witnessed a slow and rather uninteresting game last night when the Hose burg high school defeated Coquillo by a score of 17 to 8. AlthouL-b iKith teams fought hard, the contest was devoid of excitement, nnd was a slow, dragging spectacle. The game was featured by a great deal of running back and forth across the floor, with poor basketshqoting on both sides. Hoth teams were playing a Btrongyr de fense game thu,n offense, anu con sequently little basketuhooting was attempted. Husty Irwin, a veteran player with the high school, was back In uniform last night and played tbe greater part of the game. Irwin was not carrying enough subjects last semester to qualify fur the team, but this semester Is doing sufficient work to entitle him to a place on the squad. The Kosehurg team this year Is exhibiting one strong point and that is ability to convert fouls. Last year's team was very weak in this regard, and lost at bast one close game because free throws could not be turned Into scores. Last night, however, out of seven free throws, Koseburg secured five points. In fact, the local team made the first four points of the game off fouls, before a field bas ket was thrown. Hockley was high point man for Roseburg, making five points, whllo Just was second with four. Wilson, with five points, was high for Coquille. The main game was preceded by a fast preliminary between Hose burg's second team and Oakland. These two teams wer evenly matched, and put up a hard fight. Koseburg however, exhibited a much butter. ability In shouting and won the game 21) to 7. The lineup for the main game was as follows: Koseburg (7) Port.
