EUGENE, Sept. 13 Two for est fires, less - than five miles apurt. are burning today three miles southwest of Monroe and three miles west of Bell Foun tain, according to a report t)e phoned to R. S. Both fires are in the territory of the Western Lane fire patrol association and a fire fighting' crew has been furnished by the association. The Monroe fire, reported to be In small timber, was roaring towards the lumber mill of the Oregon and James town Lumber company, but the fighters believed they would have it under control before it reached the mill. At Bell Fountain the flames started on the Larson place, and spread rapidly over several acres. While both blazes are out of the National Forest, they represent a hazard to all the timber in that section. ' An airplane patrol was made this morning of the Oakrldge dis trict as a result of the report that 15 ajnall fires were burning with a possibility of more in that location. At least 15 have been counted, It was announced, and after the timber man who Is thoroughly ac quainted with the Oakridge sec tion, who was to be taken oil the air patrol, makes his trip. It Is expected that many more will be reported. TORTLAND, Or.. Sept. 13. Forest and brush fires in outlying districts, which spread a smoky Lhaze over Portland and surround ing territory were reported unaer control today. 'A fire east of Lent, a suburb, swept over 100 acres of brush be fore it was controlled. More than 600 acres of the timber holdings of the Kelly Log ging company, near lleaverton, were swept by a fire which had been put under control this morn ing Residences and the St. Mary's Boys' Home were threat ened for a time by this fire. KLAMATH FALLS, Or.. Sept. 13.
