The governor would like to meet William O. McAdoo, John W. Davis, Senator Underwood and all the others In such a contemplation. Mr. Roose velt said, and then let the delegates fight It out. There was no Indication that the challenge would be accepted or even would be given serious notice in any of the rival presidential camps. ' Governor Smith was in conference far Into last night with various po litical leaders Including Thomas Tag gart of Indiana, but he arose early and attended the wedding of the daughter of a former political asso ciate, the late Representative Daniel Riordan. Mr. Roosevelt declared that his candidate was piling up support with the arrival of every delegation. "Governor Smith predicted yester day that -he would he the nominee," Buid Mr. Roosvelt. "I say he will be beyond--the shadow of an existing doubt." Arrangements for the opening of the democratic convention were com pleted by the national committee at today's meeting with the recom mendation of the temporary officers and certification ot the temporary roll of delegates. In addition to Senator Tat Har rison of Mississippi as- chairman, these temporary officers were nam ed: Secretary, Charles A. Great house, Indiana; Serjeant at arms, J. i J. "Take the case of Illinois," Mr. Rockwell said. "There is much talk about Mr. iirenuan having this de legation vote as a unit. There is no unit rule In the delegation and 12 of the delegates are for McAdoo." Mr. Rockwell said, that should the convention vote to nbropate the two-thirds rule, the McAdoo forces would not favor abolition of the unit rule as has been proposed by some of the party leaders.. 'Discussing claims of some oppo nents that they "have McAdoo slop ped," Rockwell said the argument ago. tie. saiu ine prrm uiojw, .... the delegate was for Smith, "first, last and all the time.
